Halloween season is bringing another unusual adventure into the spotlight as Shochiku Games partners with developer DEVBEEF to publish Dr. Finklestein’s Marvelous Room, a story-driven sandbox game scheduled to launch on PC in 2027.
The partnership was announced on Oct. 16, alongside a new trailer that debuted at The MIX Fall Showcase. The game combines experimental gameplay with a mysterious science-fiction story centered on humanity’s fight against an approaching cosmic threat, making it an intriguing title to watch during the Halloween season.
New Trailer Reveals More of the Mysterious Adventure
The newly released trailer offers a closer look at the strange experiments and unpredictable situations awaiting players inside Dr. Finklestein’s Marvelous Room.

The announcement also includes a hidden mystery for viewers to investigate. A QR code appears within the trailer, potentially leading curious players toward additional secrets connected to the game.
Shochiku Games said the project stood out because of its originality, creativity, and cinematic presentation. Hiroaki Ishige, head of Shochiku Games, also expressed interest in the possibility of expanding the intellectual property through other forms of media.
DEVBEEF developer Bodie Reed welcomed the partnership, saying the team was excited to bring the project to players after years of developing its story and gameplay.
A Race Against the End of the World
Dr. Finklestein’s Marvelous Room takes place in a world facing an approaching catastrophe. The International Space Agency (INSA) has discovered that humanity has just over six months before a mysterious cosmic entity threatens to destroy everything.
Scientists have named the entity the “Dark Doodad.” It has been traveling through the universe, consuming stars, and has now turned its attention toward the solar system. Despite humanity’s attempts to stop its advance, every effort has failed.
With conventional solutions exhausted, scientist Dr. Gumphrey Finklestein proposes one final experiment that could change humanity’s fate.
The plan centers on the Marvelous Room Experiment, conducted inside a chamber measuring 10 meters long, 8 meters wide, and 5 meters tall. What happens inside this confined space could determine the future of Earth and potentially the entire universe.
Rather than presenting a conventional adventure, the game is described as a community-run experimental story game. Its premise suggests a focus on discovery, experimentation, and uncovering the consequences of the events unfolding within the room.
Shochiku Games and DEVBEEF Join Forces
Shochiku Games launched in 2024 as the gaming division of Japanese entertainment company Shochiku. The division works across game development, partnerships, and publishing, with the goal of bringing new titles to audiences in Japan and internationally.
DEVBEEF, meanwhile, began as a group of friends working on Half-Life 2 modifications before moving into original, story-focused single-player games. Following the reception of its earlier project, Title_Pending, the team is continuing its work with Dr. Finklestein’s Marvelous Room.
The publishing agreement marks a new step for the independent developer as it prepares to bring its experimental adventure to a wider audience.
With a mysterious cosmic threat, hidden clues, and an unusual scientific experiment at the center of its story, Dr. Finklestein’s Marvelous Room could offer players a different kind of adventure to follow beyond this Halloween season.
The game is scheduled to launch on PC in 2027. More details about its release and gameplay are expected as development continues.

. ## Defend Shady Hill From a Zombie Invasion *Dead Party* takes place in Shady Hill, a seemingly peaceful town where a Halloween night takes a disastrous turn after UFOs appear overhead. The strange event triggers a zombie outbreak, leaving four unlikely heroes to defend the neighborhood against the undead invasion. The game focuses on cooperative survival rather than simply eliminating enemies. Players must search their surroundings for resources, break objects to gather materials, construct barricades, and set traps to slow incoming waves. Different zombie types and map layouts will require teams to adapt their defenses as the invasion progresses. Players must coordinate their actions and make effective use of the resources available if they hope to survive. Music also plays a central role in combat. Characters can use guitars and music-based abilities to push back the undead, giving the game a rock-and-roll twist on the familiar zombie survival formula. ## Four Game Modes Offer Different Survival Challenges *Dead Party* features four distinct game modes, each presenting a different approach to defending against the zombie invasion. - **Stage Equipment:** Use stage equipment and music-powered abilities to hold back the undead. - **Antenna:** Activate generators and unleash radio waves to disrupt the invading forces. - **Skull Cannon:** Collect zombie skulls and use them to destroy UFOs. - **Horde:** Forget about escaping and see how long your team can survive against increasingly dangerous zombie waves. Players can also experience the game's Story Mode, which follows four unique characters. Each hero has individual abilities, strengths, weaknesses, equipment, and a personal storyline, giving players different approaches to the game's challenges. ## Online and Local Co-Op Support Designed around four-player cooperation, *Dead Party* supports both online and local co-op. Friends can coordinate defensive strategies, collect resources, and build barricades together as they attempt to withstand the invasion. The combination of environmental interactions, traps, different enemy types, and music-based combat is intended to keep each encounter unpredictable. Teams will need to balance preparation with quick decisions when their defenses begin to fail. With its Halloween-themed setting and cooperative gameplay, *Dead Party* is aiming to offer a different take on zombie survival when it arrives later this month. The game launches on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store on October 29, 2026, with console releases expected in the weeks following its debut.
