Worlds 2021 will feature the best League of Legends teams on the planet. The tournament is stacked with juggernauts such as FPX, EDG and DWG KIA, who will be fighting for global supremacy. However, some teams have low profiles and will likely be underdogs in most matchups. That said, these teams are no joke and can take down any powerhouse when at their best. One of these dark horses is Peace, the representative of the Oceanic region.
The Beginnings: How PEACE got to Worlds
When Peace was formed to participate in the Oceanic championship, many were sceptical of their actual ceiling. The new team had a roster consisting of a few older players that were a part of Avant Gaming, which PEACE had bought out. These players were jungler Thomas “LeeSA” Ma, top laner Yao “Apii” Jian-Jing, and AD carry Vincent “Violet” Wong. The other two drafted teammates, mid laner James “Halo” Giacoumakis and support Ryan “Aladoric” Gregory Richardson completed the roster.
In the spring split of the 2021 season, PEACE won ten games, losing only four. This was a piece of evidence that the team’s roster was strong enough to overpower the other teams in the Oceanic region. Before the summer split, the team drafted more strong players from the LCS academy in the North American region. The management inserted former TSM academy jungler Leo “Babip” Romer and Golden Guardians academy top laner James “Tally” Shute into the starting lineup. Tally, however, was later moved to mid lane to fit the team’s desired roster better.
Peace had a terrible start to the spring split as the team lost nine matches consecutively. Everyone, including analysts, predicted that the team wouldn’t make any strides in the summer split; however, Peace completely turned around their fortune and ended the season with ten wins. Their record allowed them to secure the fifth spot and place in the playoffs. Peace continued their hot streak and defeated ORDER, followed by Pentanet to secure a spot in Worlds 2021.
Path to victory: PEACE’s method to winning Worlds
Given the team’s current roster, fans are looking towards Babip and Tally, the two long-time veterans of the scene, to do the majority of heavy lifting. However, the other players on the team have proved themselves throughout their first year and are sure to carry their own weight in the Worlds event.
One of the significant drawbacks of the Peace roster is their lack of experience on the global stage. While the team has veterans, none have made it big on the global stage. Furthermore, the two LCS academy players will be under immense pressure to perform. However, Peace has shown time and time again that they are not to be underestimated. The team is one of the dark horses in the tournament and can take down any team that takes them lightly.
