VALORANT players will have to wait before locking in Waylay, as Riot Games has temporarily disabled the Duelist across all game modes due to a bug affecting her signature Refract ability.
The issue was discovered on July 31, 2026, prompting Riot to remove Waylay from matchmaking while the development team works on a fix. Although no return date has been confirmed, the agent is expected to be re-enabled in a future hotfix or patch once the problem has been resolved.
Why Riot disabled Waylay
According to Riot Games, the bug causes Waylay to receive incorrect visual information after activating Refract, her ability that allows her to place a beacon and quickly return to it while briefly becoming invulnerable.
Because the bug affects what Waylay sees during gameplay, it has the potential to create unfair situations by providing inaccurate or unintended visual information during fights.
In a tactical shooter like VALORANT, even minor visual issues can have a major impact on competitive integrity, especially in high-level matches where precise information is critical.
Riot acknowledged the issue in an official statement, saying it disabled the agent because the bug could affect fair competition. The developer confirmed that Waylay will return once a fix has been fully tested and deployed.
Waylay unavailable in every game mode
Unlike some temporary restrictions that only affect Ranked play, Waylay has been removed from all VALORANT queues.
Players currently cannot select her in:
- Competitive
- Unrated
- Swiftplay
- Spike Rush
- Deathmatch
- Escalation
- Team Deathmatch
- Custom Games
The restriction will remain in place until Riot releases a patch addressing the bug.
Which Duelists should you play instead?
While Waylay is unavailable, players looking for an aggressive entry-fragging agent still have several strong alternatives.
Jett remains one of the game’s best mobile Duelists thanks to her dash and vertical mobility, while Raze excels at clearing corners with explosive utility. Neon also offers exceptional speed and fast site entries, making her another solid replacement until Waylay returns.
The best choice will depend on your team’s composition and preferred playstyle, but all three agents can effectively fill Waylay’s role.
When will Waylay return?
Riot Games has not announced an exact timetable for Waylay’s return.
If testing goes smoothly, the fix could arrive in the next scheduled VALORANT patch or through a smaller hotfix before then. Riot is expected to announce her reactivation through its official channels once the issue has been resolved.
For now, players competing during Season 2026 Act 4, which is scheduled to end on August 19, 2026, will need to choose another Duelist while Riot works on restoring Waylay to the roster.
