Players are feeling like Tekken 8 Season 2 Ranked is straight up broken and busted!
Bandai Namco’s recent update has been massively unpopular and disliked, to say the least.
But what has caused players en masse to abandon rank, and why is it so sluggish?
Tekken 8 Season 2 Ranked Issues
Firstly, we all know that season 2 was as well received as a funnel spider in your toilet! Many pro players and casuals alike felt under-represented and lied to by developers with the doubling down on aggressive gameplay.
However, those who do not care or are just stuck with it have faced issues. Tekken 8 Season 2 Ranked has been plagued with many problems since launch.

But not just the general bugs and glitches ruining the match are making it bad. It’s in fact due to the changes to ranked plus the ongoing controversy.
See, the devs made some changes to ranked mode to fix some problems with season 1. You had players losing more rank points to lower ranks and not gaining any for beating higher ranks. Also, matches were based upon your cryptic Tekken prowess scores. This meant players who diversified their characters racked up prowess and faced more difficult players vs those who stuck to one main.

However, the fixes in Tekken 8 Season 2 Ranked have arguably made it worse.
Because now, instead of ranking up quickly, it now takes way too long to rank up. You gain the same points winning or losing, and there are no more streaks. So it’s taking way longer than it did before, to the point of boredom.
Also, the ranks being reset has made the majority of good players fall back to Fujin and Blue ranks. Meaning people around the Mighty Ruler are fighting for their lives when before it was fairly challenging but not insane.
Maybe Wait For Tekken 9
But a big issue comes from the switch from Prowess to Highest Rank matchmaking. Meaning for Tekken 8 Season 2 Ranked: if you had only one character at Fujin, your other characters would now be playing against Fujin ranks.
Even though really you just started picking up the character and know little to nothing.
Lastly, the biggest issue and the reason it’s broken is wait time. I and other players have waited for up to 15 to 30 minutes to find a ranked match! Because of the players leaving from the boycott and not enjoying the season in general.
Add the changes to gameplay, the wait time, and the slow progression, and there you go. In short, it’s way slower and more tedious to enjoy ranked.

They added 8 new high-tier ranks past God of Destruction to encourage pro players to keep playing. But many pros have not even returned to Destruction rank, let alone achieved the new ones, due to these issues.
There are currently 90-odd players in the entire world who are even GOD! So enjoy waiting for the other 89 players you definitely know by now to log in.

But maybe Bandai can pull Tekken 8 Season 2 Ranked back with some much-needed fixes.
Or you know, Tekken 7 was saved by fans; maybe they can just lose them this time around. I’m not even mentioning the other issues 8 has with its shady practices and predatory setups.
Needless to say, would you rather spend 35 dollars on a character pass or an entirely new game?
