Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has continued to dominate the Esports scene in 2022. Jaw-dropping performances have shown how high the skill ceiling has climbed and the grandiose spectacles at events at Katowice and Cologne have reminded everyone just how treasured these tournaments and events are to the community. With the game’s player base and competitive scene blossoming in 2022, Gamelevate takes a look at which CS:GO map has been the most popular pick so far this year.
Can’t Beat The Classics
In a competitive game like CS:GO, where players care immensely about their performance and a pixel’s worth of damage can make all the difference, the tried-and-tested maps in the pool are always the most picked.
There’s a familiarity with these maps that help make calling consistent and players feeling confident in the server, and their overall balance has meant Valve hasn’t had to tinker too much with them since their initial addition to the game.
According to a recent report conducted by CS:GO stats analysis site Leetify, who analyzed 5.2 official matchmaking games strictly through Valve’s Steam servers, the most picked CS:GO map is Mirage, being played in 29.6% of matches.
Train, removed from the official competitive pool back in May 2021, is the least popular pick with just 1.6%.
In full, here are the nine most popular maps in CS:GO:
- Mirage – 1,539,200 Matches (29.6%)
- Inferno – 1,076,400 Matches (20.7%)
- Dust 2 – 1,066,000 Matches (20.5%)
- Nuke – 421,200 Matches (8.1%)
- Overpass – 353,600 Matches (6.8%)
- Cache – 296,400 Matches (5.7%)
- Vertigo – 254,800 Matches (4.9%)
- Ancient – 109,200 Matches (2.1%)
- Train – 40,000 Matches (1.6%)
With over 70% of the share of matches on Steam, you can see the dominance the established trio of Mirage, Inferno and Dust 2 have on CS:GO players.
It’s also interesting to see the continued popularity of Cache, a map not currently played competitively, against the likes of Vertigo and Ancient, which both are.
How Does This Compare To The Pros?
In comparison, the competitive charts have Inferno at the top of the tree, with nearly 200 more official plays than Mirage. Dust 2 is only fifth on the list, behind Nuke and Overpass, whilst the newest additions to the pool are both, once again, at the bottom of the barrel.
In full, here’s the full list of the most popular CS:GO picks in 2022 so far:
- Inferno – 1,411 picks
- Mirage – 1,273 picks
- Nuke – 1,078 picks
- Overpass – 975 picks
- Dust 2– 911 picks
- Vertigo – 888 picks
- Ancient – 847 picks
