Indie publisher Kwalee and solo developer Chris Cote have announced that Welcome to Elderfield will launch for PC via Steam on September 10, 2026. Blending cozy life simulation mechanics with unsettling horror elements, the hand-drawn RPG invites players to build a peaceful farm while surviving an increasingly bizarre world filled with eldritch creatures and supernatural mysteries.
Ahead of launch, players can already experience the game through a free Steam demo, which lets them explore part of the town, manage their farm, venture into the first dungeon, and meet the eccentric residents of Elderfield.
A Cozy Life in a Town Full of Horrors
Welcome to Elderfield combines traditional farming and life simulation gameplay with psychological horror and Lovecraftian themes. Strange events are part of everyday life, the townsfolk have plenty of secrets, and mysterious beings constantly watch from the shadows.
Players can customize both their home and character while spending their days farming, fishing, mining, cooking, and foraging. Relationships also play a major role, allowing players to befriend or even romance many of Elderfield’s unusual residents.
The game’s hand-drawn visuals draw inspiration from horror manga, while an atmospheric lo-fi soundtrack by Dated reinforces the eerie yet relaxing tone.
Farming Gets Strange
While farming remains central to the experience, Welcome to Elderfield adds its own supernatural spin.
Players won’t simply grow vegetables, they’ll also cultivate bizarre crops including teeth and eyeballs, raise otherworldly livestock, and defend their land from invasive tentacles and mysterious woodland creatures that threaten the farm.
Balancing resource management with the town’s increasingly unsettling events creates a unique blend of cozy gameplay and horror.
Turn-Based Combat Against Ancient Horrors
For those looking for more action, Welcome to Elderfield features strategic turn-based combat against terrifying Lovecraft-inspired enemies.
Players can gather resources, upgrade equipment, and carefully plan each battle using buffs and tactical abilities. Those who prefer a more relaxing experience can choose the game’s Cozy difficulty, while players seeking a greater challenge can face the wrath of the Old Gods on higher difficulty settings.
Demo Available Now
A playable demo is currently available on Steam, giving players access to several early-game locations, including the town, farm, ranch, shopping mall dungeon, and additional areas. The demo has already earned an impressive 96% Overwhelmingly Positive user rating from players.
