Riot Games is giving VALORANT players a new way to track their progress with individual Agents through the upcoming Agent Mastery system.
The new progression system replaces Agent Gear and is designed to give players additional rewards for spending time on their favorite Agents. Agent Mastery will arrive with VALORANT Patch 13.06 on September 22, alongside other new content including a weapon and game mode.
Rather than simply unlocking a fixed set of Agent rewards, the new system gives players progression goals that can continue throughout their VALORANT careers while also providing objectives that reset with each Act.
Agent IDs Highlight Your Main
One of the biggest additions coming with Agent Mastery is Agent IDs, a new customization feature that lets players showcase their experience with specific Agents.
Players will be able to build their Agent ID using different customization elements, including:
- Backgrounds
- Poses
- Frames
- Quotes
- Trackers for statistics such as kills, hours played, and games won
These elements are earned through the Agent’s lifetime Mastery progression. Players earn Mastery Points (MP) by playing a particular Agent, with the amount earned based primarily on time played. Performance and match results can also provide additional bonuses.
The system gives players a way to show how much experience they have with an Agent beyond traditional cosmetics such as player cards and sprays.
Agent Mastery Adds Act-Based Progression
Alongside the lifetime Mastery track, Riot is introducing Agent Act Levels.
Unlike lifetime progression, Act Levels reset at the beginning of each new Act. Players can progress through these levels by using individual Agents, with the system providing upgraded Agent portraits as rewards.
The Act-based system is intended to give players a snapshot of which Agents they have been using during the current Act. This also gives players another reason to experiment with or consistently play particular Agents throughout a season.
What Happens to Agent Gear?
The introduction of Agent Mastery will also change how the existing Agent Gear system works.
When the new system launches, previously unlocked Agent Gear rewards will remain in players’ collections. Rewards that have not yet been unlocked will also remain obtainable through the new progression tracks.
This means players who have already invested time into Agent Gear will not lose their existing progress or rewards when Agent Mastery replaces the old system.
Competitive Flex Coming in 2027
Riot also provided a preview of another progression-based reward planned for VALORANT.
Competitive Flex is scheduled to arrive at the beginning of 2027 and will focus on a player’s ranked achievements throughout the year.
The reward will evolve as players progress through the Competitive system, gaining additional upgrades with each Act. Instead of representing progress from a single Act, Competitive Flex is designed to bring together a player’s ranked journey across an entire year.
For now, Riot has not revealed every detail surrounding Competitive Flex, but the feature is expected to provide another way for players to display their Competitive accomplishments.
Agent Mastery arrives in VALORANT with Patch 13.06 on September 22, giving players new progression paths and additional ways to showcase their experience with their favorite Agents.
