Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is Ubisoft’s latest take on a multiplayer first-person shooter.
Another shooter enters the ring
Ubisoft San Francisco announced their latest project on June 20th. Drawing inspiration from the game developer’s ever-expanding Tom Clancy universe of IPs is Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. The game is a 6v6, free-to-play, fast-paced arena shooter, a first for the AAA game publisher.
The announcement was made via Ubisoft North America’s YouTube channel and featured the game’s creative director, Jason Schroeder, and executive producer, Mark Rubin. XDefiant is billed as a first-person shooter that “combines intense gunplay with personalized loadouts and specialized factions, as teams of gunfighters called Defiants battle for dominance.”
Something new but similar?

The video reveals of XDefiant showcases Ubisoft’s emphasis on three major features of their new game. Here’s more on what Ubisoft has expressed about these key elements of their upcoming game:
Personalized playstyle
Ubisoft will introduce a way to personalize a player’s Defiant to the teeth. Players can customize their faction, traits, abilities and ultras. The teaser also emphasized the players’ ability to choose their weapon loadout and attachments and swap things out as the battles progress.
Competitive Clashes
Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is set to be a 6v6 arena shooter, so it’s no surprise that there is a competitive aspect to the game. So far, game modes such as Domination and Escort have been the first to be named. The game also boasts a large pool of maps.
Tom Clancy-verse Factions

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant introduces character classes in the form of factions. These are classes and roles inspired by the different characters in the Tom Clancy universe of video games. The four factions introduced are the Wolves or tank, Cleaners or assault, Echelon or support, and Outcasts or healers. Each faction comes with its own unique set of skills, traits, and ultras.
Tom Clancy’s XDefiant reveal video also came with a call for feedback. The people at Ubisoft San Francisco are inviting people to sign up through Ubisoft’s website for a chance to test their new game. The first set of tests will begin on August 5 for PC gamers in the US and Canada.
