With his tanky nature, good damage output, and self-healing, Roadhog may seem like an unbeatable hero to play against. However, if players can pick the right character into a matchup against him, it is more than possible to win. Roadhog counter #3: Reaper
When it comes to killing tanks, Reaper is at the top of the class. With just his Hellfire Shotguns, he can easily shred through even the tankiest of opponents. Because of that, when playing against a Roadhog, it is important for Reaper to let his team work on the other enemies while he deals with the tanks.
With Reaper going hard after Roadhog, he can easily heal back the damage taken, allowing him to focus down his opponent while still remaining at a healthy life total. However, if Roadhog tries to throw a hook at Reaper or try to go for a kill, simply using Wraith Form allows him to escape death and turn on his opponent for a well-placed kill.
Roadhog counter #2: Zarya
When trying to pick a tank hero when going up against Roadhog, there is no better option than Zarya. Since she can use her Particle Barrier to shield herself against attacks, she can easily survive the heavy amount of damage Roadhog has and still be able to make it out alive with a kill under her belt.
She is also useful in this matchup because she can protect her team as well. If things are starting to get hairy and Roadhog wants to go after a hero other than Zarya, like a support or a squishy carry, she can easily use the Projected Barrier to shield that ally. This should give her team enough time to come for backup and save their teammate.
Roadhog counter #1: Mei
While Mei seems like she may not be a great counter to Roadhog, in reality, she is actually one of the top contenders when choosing a DPS hero. Since she can deal so much damage in one shot with her Icicle, she can easily help whittle down Roadhog so that he is at a more manageable life total. Then, once he is low enough, Mei and her team can easily clean up and help push for a win.
She is also good in this matchup because of her Cryo-Freeze ability. Since Roadhog can easily one-shot opponents with his hook-then-auto combo, being able to stop the ability before it can land on Mei allows her to escape death. Then, with Roadhog’s abilities on cooldown, Mei can swoop in and pick up a kill, leaving the now-dead tank bewildered.
