When Overwatch players are looking for a counter to Mercy, it may seem like it is hopeless as the combos she can have with her allies are almost unbeatable. However, that isn’t true at all, as there are some heroes that can help shut down Mercy and allow their team to pick up a win. In order to help players better know who to pick into her, here are the top 3 Overwatch heroes that counter Mercy.
Mercy counter #3: Genji
When the enemy team picks Mercy, Genji is an ideal option for the situation. As long as Mercy isn’t on someone like Pharah, Genji can take her out with no problem. Since Mercy has such low health and with Genji able to deal so much damage in a short burst, she can be dead before she knows it. This gives Genji’s team the opportunity to go on a killing spree while their enemies’ primary support is dead.
For the case when Mercy does happen to be on a hero like Pharah, it is important for Genji to look for kills onto the enemy team’s ground forces. This will force Mercy to come back down to heal her team. However, while she is doing that she is much more vulnerable, giving Genji the perfect opportunity to kill her.
Mercy counter #2: Roadhog
When playing into a Mercy, especially if she is paired with Pharah, Roadhog is a great option for a tank to pick into that team composition. With Roadhog’s Chain Hook, he can easily pick Mercy out of the sky. Then, once the opponents are earthbound, he can easily kill Mercy in one shot with his Scrap Gun.
Even without a Pharah, however, Roadhog is an ideal pick into Mercy. Since Mercy is so squishy and Roadhog can deal massive bursts of damage, he can easily hook an unsuspecting Mercy and kill her in one shot. Even with his ultimate, Whole Hog, Roadhog can let loose and go after Mercy or the enemy team, since she will have trouble healing through his ultimate. However, if she does decide to heal allies and hide behind them, he can still burst through for an easy team kill.
Mercy counter #1: Tracer
Tracer is perhaps the biggest counter to Mercy. With her Pulse Pistols, Tracer can easily burst down an unsuspecting Mercy who will have no time to react. Tracer is a highly mobile hero, which makes it all the easier for her to make picks onto squishy opponents. She can easily Blink behind Mercy and take her out before she can even escape, then make it out without even a scratch.
Even if Mercy happens to be attached to a Pharah, similar to Genji, Mercy can wreak havoc on opponents on the ground, forcing Mercy to heal her other allies. However, if she decided to run back into the sky in the blink of an eye, Tracer can strap her with a Pulse Bomb so that even if she does get away, she still dies to the ability.
