After beating FunPlus Phoenix in the Grand Final, Top Esports lifted the Demacia Cup 2021 trophy to make a strong start to the upcoming season.
Every year, LPL teams battle against each other in Demacia Cup to prepare themselves for the upcoming split. Just like most of the recent years, some LPL teams competed with their youngsters or academy rosters. In the end, Top Esports won the trophy after their 3-2 Grand Final win against FunPlus Phoenix.
According to the tournament format, four teams automatically started their journey from the playoffs stage. However, other teams had to secure first place in their groups to reach the upper stages. Top Esports secured the first seed in Group A with three wins and a single loss. Their group stage opponents were Team WE, Bilibili Gaming, Huya All Star, and JD Gaming.
They faced RNG in the quarterfinals and demolished their opponents with a quick sweep to advance in the tournament. With another quick sweep against Invictus Gaming in the semifinals, TES reached the grand final. Both Top Esports and FunPlus Phoenix had great performances in the grand final but TES won the trophy with a score of 3-2.
Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo and Zhuo “knight” Ding won four MVP awards and had a huge impact on their team’s success. On top of their individual performances, Top Esports’ chemistry and teamwork looked awesome. The team’s performance against Royal Never Give Up and Invictus Gaming looked impressive.
Demacia Cup is a tournament that has been held in the region for many years but it is more of pre-season fun for the teams and the audience. Even though some teams showed disappointing performances and some players didn’t even show up, things will change once the league starts. For example, we haven’t seen Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao even though he is back on track.
