There are plenty of Overwatch players who have a soft spot for Baptiste. The story behind the hero is a great tale about a villain turned good guy, which is always a fun trope to hear about. Even his playstyle is enjoyable for players. The fact that he is a support hero with lots of AoE healing means that he can focus on dealing damage while his team soaks up the free heals. However, those who have played this hero long enough will know that he has some maps that aren’t really suited to him. But with that, there are also maps that play to his strengths, and a good Baptiste main will know those maps and insta-lock him. For those who may not have been playing Baptiste long enough to know what maps he can excel in, here are the top 3 maps in Overwatch for Baptiste.
What makes a map good for Baptiste?
Baptiste is a rather unique support hero because he doesn’t always want to be standing beside his team to heal them. Or course, the more he stays with his team the better he can support them, but there are many instances where he doesn’t want to do that. With his Exo Boots, he can easily jump to get a vantage point on enemies so that he can assemble his team to ambush them and secure an objective. However, for the times when he does want to be with his team, he can dish out damage while using his AoE healing abilities to keep his team protected.
When looking for an ideal map for Baptiste, it is best to take him into places that have close-quarters. While he may not be the best at close-ranged combat, he has a high affinity for close-ranged healing. With his abilities like Regenerative Burst, he wants to stay fairly close to his allies so that he can properly heal them. But when he does want to go scouting ahead, he can still use his Biotic Launcher to heal them from a further distance, although he still does prefect to stay close to his team.
Numbani has plenty of spots that really allows Baptiste to thrive. The way the map is set up with narrow streets and plenty of obstacles incentivizes players to stick together, which allows Baptiste to play to his strengths. He can easily heal his allies with Regenerative Burst or empower their attacks with an Amplification Matrix.
This map also has plenty of high spots for him to use his Exo Boots to jump to. This gives him the chance to survey an area to see if there are any enemies or traps waiting for his team. It also gives him a good vantage point to lay down fire to protect his allies if they are trying to hold an objective.
Watchpoint: Gibraltar may not have the same degree of advantages that Numbani has, but it still has some great perks that give Baptiste the chance to really showcase what his kit can do. With all of the rafters and buildings to hop onto, he can easily use his Exo Boots to scout ahead and be sure his allies can safely push forward. This can prevent his team from walking straight into a Junkrat trap or even a horde of enemies waiting for an ambush.
This map also has plenty of enclosed spaces, allowing him to use his healing abilities to his full potential. Even when escorting a payload, Baptiste can play to whatever side his team needs. If they need a healer to support them from close up, he can stay with his team for that. Even if his team needs that extra bit of damage and map awareness, he can provide that as well.
Throughout most of Hanamura, there are very tight spaces that are a disadvantage to heroes that want to keep opponents in their line of sight or are not mobile enough to use the high points for their advantage. However, that is no issue for Baptiste. His Exo Boots give him the chance to get to these hard-to-reach places so that he can lay down fire for his team to push forward. He can also use these spots to stay out of enemy fire while still supporting his team with his Biotic Launcher.
These tight spaces also allow Baptiste to make the most of his healing. Since Reinhardt is also popular on this map, it gives Baptiste a shield to stand behind so that he can use his Regenerative Burst to heal allies as they push forward or even to empower their attacks with an Amplification Matrix. By making the most of these close quarters and high places, Baptiste can easily supply him and his team with the tools they need to capture objectives and win games.
