Through their collaboration with Trovo, Thunder Predator will be the first Peruvian esports team to be sponsored by a streaming platform.
Preparing for The International
Trovo, the video game streaming platform owned by Tencent Holdings of Riot Games and PUBG fame, decided to make a unique impression in the Peruvian esports scene by becoming an official sponsor of Thunder Predator as The International 10 (TI 10) approaches.
Thunder Predator has been on a streak this past year at both the national and international levels: after achieving a Top 6 finish at the Singapore Major, they qualified for TI10 which will begin October 7th in Romania with a total prize pool of $40 million.
Thunder Predator qualifying for TI10 has resonated with fans: a strong supporter’s community has been built in Latin America as well as in Eastern Europe and Asia.
Rising importance of Latin America
Andrés Villagómez, CEO and co-founder of Basher Agency which is an ally of Thunder Predator and their sponsor manager, stated that their job was to get international companies recognize the brand value of Latin American esports teams with sustainable metrics, and they were able to achieve that by bringing Thunder Predator and Trovo together.
“Latin America has a lot to offer for international brands. There are around 435 million of Latin Americans consuming the internet massively and more than half are gamers. We are talking about a market as big as the USA or Europe, where people are passionate about their teams. The same passion is reflected in Football, for example.”Jose Vargas, CFO and Co-founder, Basher Agency
This collaboration comes hot on the heels of other partnerships announced that target the Latin American audience like the one between Nicecactus and AJE Group. It is not surprising that brands are showing so much interest in this region: according to NewZoo, it is estimated that the esports industry will grow by 57% in Latin America by 2023.
