The tactical narrative RPG from the creators of King of Dragon Pass and Six Ages brings a new collection of mythic underworld journeys
Developer A Sharp and publisher Kitfox Games have announced that Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists will launch on September 8, 2026.
The upcoming tactical narrative RPG takes players on a series of dangerous journeys through different versions of the underworld, where every decision can affect the story, the party, and the outcome of each mission.
A new release date trailer has also been revealed, offering a closer look at the game’s hand-painted artwork and its dark fantasy setting.
Build Your Own Party
In Thousand Hells, players will create their own character and assemble a party of companions with different skills and traits.
Each mission requires players to consider their party composition carefully, as characters must deal with both physical and mental challenges. The right combination of abilities can help a group survive encounters, while poor decisions can leave members of the party weakened or worse.
The game features more than 280 dynamic narrative encounters, with players required to choose how they respond to each situation.
Every Decision Can Change the Story
The encounters in Thousand Hells are designed around meaningful choices, with multiple paths available throughout each mission.
Players can take risks in pursuit of greater rewards or choose safer options to protect their party. These decisions can influence how a mission develops and potentially determine whether the team makes it through the underworld intact.
The game also emphasizes replayability. Players can create new quests or retry missions they previously failed, while the cast of helpers available to them can change between attempts.
Multiple Underworlds to Explore
Rather than focusing on a single interpretation of the afterlife, Thousand Hells presents an anthology of different mythic journeys.
Players may find themselves following in Orpheus’ footsteps on a mission to rescue a loved one, while another adventure could involve attempting to save the Eternal City from an insect plague.
Each underworld comes with its own visual identity, threats, and challenges. The developers say the way players approach these environments will help shape how their individual stories unfold.
The game’s anthology was created by eight different writers and is accompanied by hundreds of hand-painted illustrations.
A New Fantasy World From the Creators of Six Ages
Thousand Hells is set in a standalone fantasy universe created by the team behind King of Dragon Pass and the Six Ages series.
Players take on contracts from a mysterious figure known as the Ambassador, with the objective changing from mission to mission.
Although careful planning can help players prepare for each assignment, the game promises that missions will rarely go according to plan.
Demons, guardians, gods, and other supernatural threats stand between players and their objectives, making adaptability just as important as preparation.
Thousand Hells Release Date
Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists launches September 8, 2026.
With its combination of tactical decision-making, branching narrative encounters, party management, and mythology-inspired settings, the game offers a different take on the RPG genre.
The developers are positioning Thousand Hells as a highly replayable narrative experience where players’ choices can change both the course of individual missions and the fate of their party.
