Former Worlds winner Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok is no longer a member of Invictus Gaming after both parties mutually decided to part ways. Although his contract expired in November, TheShy actively renegotiated with Invictus Gaming. However, the negotiations did not come to fruition, and as a result, he won’t be part of the squad moving forward.
TheShy had a slow begining and initially made a name as a streamer on Team WE. Many fans praised him as one of the best mechanically gifted players who often stomped his opponents. In 2017, TheShy joined Invictus Gaming as a sub to Lee “Duke” Ho-seong. However, it didn’t take long for him to impress the management, and he was promoted to the starting lineup. TheShy, along with Invictus Gaming, cruised through the Spring Split of LPL 2018. The team finished the regular season with an impressive record of 18-1, dropping just one game to Royal Never Give Up. However, TheShy sustained a hand injury which kept him out of the playoffs, and as a result, Invictus Gaming crashed out of the tournament.
Summer Split was, once again, great for the entire Invictus Gaming as the team finished the regular season with a record of 18-1. That said, similar to Spring Split, Invictus Gaming lost to RNG in the playoffs. However, the team was still able to qualify for Worlds 2018 through the regional qualifiers.
Worlds 2018 was arguably the best we ever saw from TheShy. Invictus Gaming was placed in Group D, where they finished second with a record of 5-1. In the quarterfinals, Invictus faced tournament favorites KT Rolster and came victorious in an intense battle. The semifinals and finals were much easier for Invictus Gaming as they won the global crown without dropping a game. TheShy, in particular, was outstanding throughout the tournament, manhandling every opponent he faced.
TheShy’s career has been on a downward trajectory since Worlds 2018, and his inconsistent form and aggressive playstyle are not panning out like they used to. Furthermore, TheShy has had one of the highest deaths on average in LPL for the past few seasons. It would be interesting to see what the future holds for the super top; however, no concrete rumors regarding his next move have surfaced. Apart from TheShy, Invictus Gaming has also released long-time player Song “Rookie” Eui-jin from the squad.
