Players new to Overwatch want to play heroes that fit their playstyle but finding heroes that give them a warm welcome is key to understanding how the game works. Here are three heroes that will help players build that understanding to help them improve at the game in the long term.
The best tank hero for new players: Orisa
When it comes to picking tanks, there aren’t very many options compared to damage heroes, but this makes the choice all the more important. Each of the eight tanks has their own unique style, but Orisa is one that players should find more welcoming to pick up than others.
This is because of her self-protective and versatile kit. For example, not only can Orisa buff up her teammates with her ultimate ability, Supercharger, she can also help protect them with her Protective Barrier. Then, for the more hard-to-handle opponents, Halt! offers her team a way to impair the movement of those heroes and take them out of hiding for her team to pick up an easy kill.
Another perk of Orisa is that she can dish out tons of damage with her basic attacks since it holds so much ammo and can ping down targets at a distance. This makes the champion much more hospitable to new players because she can mimic a classic FPS playstyle with her constant barrage of attacks.
The best support hero for new players: Lúcio
Healers may not be able to make flashy plays like other heroes, but Lúcio comes close. He does a lot for a hero that is also in the support class. With the AoE speed boost on his Crossfade ability, he can move from healing his opponents to increasing their movement speed, making all-in engages much easier.
Another argument for playing Lúcio is his Sonic Amplifier, which can knock back opponents caught in the ability. This allows him to make interesting plays that open up multiple possibilities on different maps, like moving enemies into a spot where they can easily get caught out and allow his team to pick up an easy kill.
The reason Lúcio is an ideal hero for new players to pick up is because he offers easya nd passive healing, meaning that he can dish out heals to allies while focusing on making plays against the enemy team. This helps players build their game sense.
The best damage hero for new players: Soldier: 76
When it comes to classic heroes in Overwatch, there is no comparison when talking about Soldier: 76. Soldier is a hero that allows new players to pick him up with ease and enjoy the thrill of their first game.
With his Sprint ability, he can easily move in on enemies to pick up an easy kill or to reposition before making a game-ending play. He can also use his Helix Rockets for opponents that are a bit more out of range, allowing him to get kills even at a distance. And, if his health ever happens to get too low, he can easily heal himself and allies a bit with Biotic Field, making him the ideal hero to pick in an uncertain matchup
His ultimate ability, however, is what makes him such a classic. This ability, called Tactical Visor, allows him to open fire with an auto-aim. This ability in particular is what makes him so good for new players because he can easily store up for his ultimate with all the attacking he does. Then, when his ultimate is fully charged, Soldier: 76 can wreak havoc on the enemy team without having to worry about missing.
