Praise be, the Season 2 Throw Break Chip damage has been confirmed to be not permanent!
Bandai Namco has listened to the fans after some major backlash for Season 2 changes.
But what were these changes, and what does this mean for Tekken 8 Season 2?
Throw Break Chip Damage Roll Back
Recently the Tekken team over at Bandai Namco had been receiving major negative feedback. This came in the form of users online via social media and even pro players making dedicated videos.
The backlash was so bad that Bandai Namco has decided to go back on their changes. Firstly, the biggest concern is Throw Break Chip damage.

That’s right, in season 2, when you tech a throw, you receive throw break chip damage. So all your hard work with reaction timing in the lab will reward you with chip damage! Meaning you are getting punished for achieving one of the most difficult aspects of Tekken.
But luckily the outcry has been massive, and Bandai has heard our pleas. On the official Tekken website, they have rescinded the decision, deeming it too much in favor of the attacker and an insult to advanced players.
However, come April 1st, players will not be getting unwanted Throw Break Chip damage. Also, along with the Season 2 readjustments come a number of much-needed tweaks to Heat Engagers and Chip Damage as a whole.

Secondly, the input windows for one plus two breaks are getting loosened. For those who don’t know, what they are saying is that you will get fewer instances of having pressed one plus two to break a throw not actually going, reading as one.
Although not as big as Throw Break Chip, it does show their commitment to fixing Tekken. Because prior to this, it meant players on sticks pressing the buttons without binds were losing their inputs.
Break Me
Thirdly, throws for whiffed normals are getting increased recovery. This allows players to punish missed normals by a whopping six frames!
But to go back to the big Throw Break Chip system change for a second. Honestly, it is just such a baffling choice to go for by Bandai. Although Tekken 8 has been the most drastically different Tekken in ages, this type of change was just silly.

Really what players have been clamoring for is a turn down of the pressure around heat, not grabs. Although some characters like King live or die via grabs, it is not the pressing issue. But instead, the amount of plus frames and pressure from certain Heat Moves is still insane.
Even though Tekken 8 is an offensive-heavy game, you cannot neglect the defensive options so heavily. Making a change like Throw Break Chip damage affects both casuals and pros alike tremendously. It punishes pros for playing well and rewards noobs for spamming.
But again, it’s great to see Bandai roll back on this and listen to the player base, unlike other companies. However, we still have yet to see April 1st Season 2 in action and the changing meta. So until then, get back in the lab and throw a break!
