Excellent! Bandai just dropped the Tekken 8 Lee Chaolan reveal trailer!
Everyone’s favorite playboy, Billionaire, is back on the roster and kicking in style.
But let’s take a closer look at the changes and what’s in store for Lee.
Tekken 8 Lee Chaolan Reveal Trailer Breakdown
Bandai has released another reveal trailer for the upcoming release on January 26th. Adding some style to the 32-man roster is Lee Chaolan.
Sporting a new look and stage, the legacy character makes his grand re-entrance. His new main look is a lot less snazzier than usual, sporting a full-millitary getup. These are cool on their own, but some players are wanting him to dress a little sharper.
Although he is a major player in the Tekken story, he has always had a bit of an I don’t care attitude. This is either done on purpose to throw people off or he really just did not take notice. We like to think it’s a bit of both, really. But to see him in full combat gear as his main character is a bit jarring.
Luckily, his secondary is a more fitting, tailor-made suit. Also, we have his Tekken 7 getup, which perfectly exaggerates his playboy style.
The reveal showcases a lot of added extra moves and tweaks to his playset.
One change we noticed is that his down-four sliding dash seems a bit shorter and does not knockdown. Also, his just-frame rythym kicks appear to be more noticeable, with bright ki flairs signaling a successful input.
For those new to Lee, his playstyle is about rapid hits and frames. Just frames are moves in which players must input commands at a certain timing during an animation. His most notable being 3, 3, 4. In heat, now this move, like electric, seems to be done automatically.
However, we have heard from play testers that a perfect input during heat will regain some heat bar. Lee is looking to be a perfect pick for new players and regulars alike.
But for those looking to learn him, we implore that they learn his style and rythym literally. In regards to execution, Lee is one of the harder characters due to his unique requirements. Yes, electrics are hard on any mishima, but just frames in the middle of a fight can be difficult to pull off.
Adopted Mishima Lee Chaolan
Lee was the first unlockable character all the way back in Tekken 1! Apart from Tekken 3, he has been playable in all Tekken games.
Originally from China, Chaolan is Heihachi Mishima’s adopted son. Also, he is Kazuya Mishima’s rival. As Kazuya’s rival, he was expected to follow him in as closely as possible; from a young age, the same imperialistic teachings that were hammered into Kazuya were also hammered into him. Those teachings drove him to master the martial arts.
During Tekken 4, he took on an alternate name under Violet to enter the tournament. After making his own business and becoming wealthy, he aimed to seek revenge on the Mishimas. Mainly Kazuya and Heihachi.
In Tekken 6, he helped Lars with his anti-Tekken Force escapades, and he looks to continue doing this in Tekken 8. Lee is a wild card character in the story who appears to be on the ‘good side’. But given his nature and upbringing, his allegations can shift quickly. Without his adopted father to lash out, how will he turn out in this new story mode?
