Team RICOCHET is doubling down on its mission to protect Call of Duty from cheaters and hackers. Cheating affects all major games, and the team is committed to staying ahead with new tools and stronger enforcement. Season 05 brings fresh security features, account protections, and tougher action against cheating networks.
New Security Features in Season 05
Two new PC-based protections are rolling out: TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.
- TPM 2.0 is a hardware security feature built into most CPUs and motherboards. It verifies that a PC’s boot process hasn’t been altered.
- Secure Boot ensures Windows only loads trusted software at startup.
These features help create a secure, cheat-free foundation. They will be optional in Season 05 but will become mandatory for PC players when Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launches later this year. Players are encouraged to enable them now to avoid future issues.
Both features will run checks before the game starts but won’t affect performance during play.
Account Security Upgrades
Activision continues to improve account safety. Players should:
- Verify their email address
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)
These steps protect against account hijacking and make recovery easier. 2FA may become a requirement for all accounts in the future.
Ranked Play Policy Update
Game Pass Free Trial accounts on PC will no longer have access to Multiplayer Ranked Play in Black Ops 6. Only players with an active Game Pass subscription or a purchased copy of the game can compete in Ranked. This keeps competitive play fair and secure.
Action Against Boosting and Teaming
New detection tools now target players who use boosting or teaming to gain unfair leaderboard positions. Offenders have been removed from leaderboards, and repeat offenders are being permanently banned. Boosting violates Activision’s Terms of Use and will be treated as cheating.
Shutting Down Cheat Networks
Season 05 also sees stronger legal action against cheat developers and sellers. Twenty-two individuals have received cease-and-desist letters, and nearly 40 cheat vendors have been shut down since Black Ops 6 launched. This approach targets both the creators and the marketplace.
The Road to Black Ops 7
Season 05 is a testing ground for these new protections. By the time Black Ops 7 launches, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot will be required for all PC players. This move raises the barrier for cheats that operate at a system level.
Team RICOCHET’s fight against cheating is ongoing, and these upgrades are part of a broader push to keep Call of Duty fair, competitive, and fun.
