According to today’s announcement, Team Heretics and Misfits Gaming have agreed to complete the LEC spot buyout, which will take effect in the 2023 season.
Lately, rumors of Misfits Gaming selling their spot to another organization have hit the fans quite harshly. There were a couple of different organization names that were willing to buy the spot and finally, one of them closed the deal. According to the announcement of Misfits Gaming, they have sold their LEC spot to Team Heretics. Heretics are now the newest esports organization in the LEC.
Misfits Gaming were one of the oldest teams to compete in the European League of Legends scene. The organization made its entrance to the scene back in 2016. However, they used to compete in the lower division of LEC, the EU CS. They managed to promote to the biggest league in the region and since then, continued to battle against the best teams in the region. During this time, Misfits Gaming attended Worlds once, in 2017.
No words can describe how bittersweet this moment is. This is part of a larger strategic shift that i’ll discuss in the near future, but right now all emotions are being felt in our org/players/staff – LoL is our esports birthplace and that will always mean so much to us.
Ben Spoont, Founder and CEO of Misfits Gaming
Team Heretics are one of the most famous Spanish esports teams in the ecosystem. They have competed in the scene back in 2017 but in the second division of the Spanish league. However, they decided to make their return and joined the LVP SL, at the beginning of the season. Right now, they are the leader of the regular season alongside Giants with 12 wins and 5 losses.
An era closed as we will not see Misfits Gaming in the League of Legends scene, at least for a while.
