The Korean team, T1, swept their fellow competitor Hanwha Life Esports in the opening game of Worlds 2021 quarterfinals and reached the semifinals.
Worlds 2021 quarterfinals started with Korean battle between T1 and Hanwha Life Esports. Both teams played against each other before during LCK Summer Split. Just like the regular-season standings, T1 managed to come on top of Hanwha Life Esports and pushed their opponents out of the tournament with a score of 3-0.
T1 stomped their opponent from the start of the series until the end. Rather than focusing on individual performances, the team relied on their chemistry to defeat Hanwha Life Esports. On the other hand, Hanwha Life Esports’ only choice was to get the mid-lane priority to win games. However, League of Legends is a team-based game. Even though HLE came to this stage most importantly with Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon’s insane performances, it wasn’t enough for them to beat T1. With this performance, we may see a surprise from T1 in the upcoming stages.
Farewell Chovy
Hanwha Life Esports made it their way to the quarterfinals by starting from the play-in stage. After completing the play-ins successfully, the team made it to the main stage to compete against Royal Never Give Up, Fnatic, and PSG Talon. Hanwha Life Esports secured four wins against these teams. They were right behind RNG in the standings. Now, HLE’s Worlds 2021 run has come to an end.
T1 are the first semifinalists of this year’s Worlds competition. Their opponent will either be DAMWON KIA or MAD Lions. DAMWON and MAD will compete against each other on November 24. Other quarterfinal games will be played on November 23 and 25. The first competition will be against Royal Never Give Up and EDward Gaming. Gen.G, and Cloud9’s matchup will be the latest quarterfinals game of this year’s Worlds.
