Valorant Champions Tour 2021 Stage 3 EMEA Playoffs brought breathtaking competitions to our screens last week. Twelve participants fought each other for Masters Berlin tickets, but only four of them succeeded, including SuperMassive Blaze (SMB).
When the SuperMassive Blaze Valorant roster was established in May, countless concerns were hanging in the air: Can the five-star players be successful together? The organization created a superteam in Turkey by acquiring the top talents of the region. There was only one thing to expect from a team that have Baran “Izzy” Yılmaz, Eren “Brave” Kasırga, Mehmet “Turko” Özen, Batuhan “russ” Malgaç, and Melih “pAura” Karaduran, and that is success.
Only a month after being formed, the roster’s VCT 2021 Stage 3 journey began with the open qualifiers. They had twenty days to practice for the tournament since pAura was getting married. Surprisingly, that tiny bit of time was enough for them to qualify for Turkey Challengers 1.
They suffered their first defeat from Oxygen Esports in the tournament, sending them to the lower bracket. At the same time, nobody else knew that the lower bracket buff had been activated for SuperMassive Blaze to crush their opponents one by one while relying on their individuals. They turned into a completely different team and this time, the super team managed to defeat Oxygen Esports in the grand final of Turkey Challengers 1 and qualified for EMEA Playoffs as the first seed of the region.
SuperMassive Blaze, the home of powerful individuals
In July, SuperMassive Blaze strengthened with the addition of Tanishq “Tanizhq” Sabharwal, who is the former Team Heretics coach. When the EMEA Playoffs started, the Turkish representative looked stronger than ever. They weren’t relying on their individuals only, but on the strategic depth they have. In addition, every player on the roster was ready to pop off.
SuperMassive Blaze started their EMEA run by beating FunPlus Phoenix despite the technical difficulties they experienced. Then, there was only one obstacle for Stage 3 Masters Berlin: G2 Esports, who found their rhythm following the roster changes. In the end, SuperMassive Blaze’s own rhythm proved to be better as they crushed G2 Esports, securing the spot in Masters Berlin.
The next opponent was Acend, and this will determine the first team in the grand final of the EMEA Playoffs. After two outstanding games in Split and Haven, SuperMassive Blaze managed to take over Acend with a 2-1, taking their spot in the grand final.
The grand final wasn’t as wonderful for SMB, though. Against Gambit Esports, the Turkish team’s weaknesses came to the surface. Following the close match in Split, they lost their concentration completely, had hard times reading Gambit’s plan, and started to lose gun duels. Similar to the majority of Turkish teams, momentum is so important for SuperMassive Blaze as well, and losing gunfights was a direct hit to their morale. In the end, Gambit Esports surpassed them with a 3-1 score, in which SMB was able to take only eight rounds in the last two maps.
Izzy, pAura popping off for SuperMassive Blaze
Everyone in the team had a superb tournament, but two names shined the best: Izzy and pAura. With the entry frags he took, Izzy was a real powerhouse for his team. The 20-year-young talent showed a true duelist performance throughout the EMEA Playoffs and helped SuperMassive Blaze win a spot in Masters Berlin with his 29 opening scores alongside 1.29 KD.
pAura returned to his home country after a seven-month journey with Team Heretics where he won the First Strike: Europe. He’s been carrying more weight on his shoulders this time as the in-game leader and the captain of the team. Yet, the heavy weight of that responsibility couldn’t stop him from performing great in the EMEA Playoffs. pAura came to the forefront every time his team needed him and the decisions he made led SuperMassive Blaze to the Masters Berlin.
SuperMassive Blaze will compete in VCT 2021 Stage 3 Masters Berlin, as the second seed of EMEA between September 10 to 19. I believe that the Turkish superteam has a decent chance in the tournament if they fix their minor issues and bring new plans to the table.
