After six years of development, solo developer Brad Warren is preparing to launch Sunken Realms, an action RPG dungeon crawler, on Steam.
Developed by Magic Puncher Games, Sunken Realms will release on September 18 for $16.99 / £13.99 / €16.99. Players will also receive a 10% launch discount during the first two weeks following release.
The game’s free demo will remain available until September 21, giving players a short window to try Sunken Realms before the demo is removed.
The game has already attracted more than 30,000 wishlists on Steam ahead of its full release.
Exploring the Ruins of Aedaria
Sunken Realms takes players beneath the surface into the remains of Aedaria, an underground city that was cursed by the gods decades ago. The city has since become a dangerous destination for adventurers searching for treasure and answers.
Players take on the role of Alric, who enters the lost city while searching for information about his missing father.
The dungeon combines hand-crafted environments with procedural rearrangement. Across six different sections, the game features 109 handcrafted rooms that are reorganized whenever players enter the dungeon, creating a different layout for each run.
Combat includes both melee and ranged options, while players can also learn spells and use powerful magic discovered within the ruins.
Progress Between Runs
Exploration is only part of the experience. Players can return to a surface camp after each expedition to use the resources they have collected.
At camp, players can craft weapons and armor, prepare food, brew potions, trade items and improve their character through the Soul Forge. Returning to the dungeon at higher difficulty levels provides more challenging encounters alongside better rewards.
The game also puts an emphasis on its story. Between dungeon runs, players can spend time around the campfire and learn more about the personal story connecting the characters.
Warren has cited Outward as a major inspiration for Sunken Realms, particularly its focus on exploration and the feeling of venturing into an unknown world. The developer has also pointed to Hades and The Legend of Zelda as influences on the game’s storytelling and sense of adventure.
