(Gamelevate hopes this streamer interview gives parents and children alike some information to help start their streaming journey.)
With the constant flood of streaming media we consume daily, it inspires many people to take to the internet and keep the flow going. They strive to be a part of the community and give back what they’ve received.
People are touched by what they see online and want to capture a bit of that magic for themselves. So they can reach out into the aether and meet new personalities and explore new possibilities.
Many of these people are able to do this themselves, since they have the means. But what if someone younger wants to try and break into this field? How do they get the right gear? How do they set up the more complicated aspects of streaming and content creation?
Well, Gamelevate sat down with a mom and son streaming duo to ask about some of their driving passions that keep their stream alive. As well as some answers for how younger children can break into this rapidly growing field.
But we didn’t forget about the parents. We also have some insight as to how guardians can help their children fulfill a desire and a passion.
Mom, named Angel, and her son, Arion, both have been streaming for a while now and find great pleasure in it. The duo uses the online moniker “BabyMama1230 ” and broadcasts their online gaming ventures regularly.
Their streams are always family friendly and can give even the most stone faced people a good smile. We hope that the questions we asked give you some pointers on how you, or your young ones, can start on an ever-growing passion for many youths.
What are your favorite games to stream and why?
Angel said that her favorite games to stream are from Jackbox. The reason being is that “I love getting my viewers to join in on the fun. I like to have that interaction with my viewers.”
However, Arion likes to march to his drum and says “I like to stream Roblox, but I also like to play different games.” With the popularity of his favorite game, it’s no surprise his stream attracts viewers. When he enjoys the game, so do his viewers, making it a natural fit for this young gamer.
How do you and your son interact with viewers?
No Twitch stream would be possible without viewers, and mom knows that. So Angel is sure to give the viewers a few freebies for anyone who is a long-time and devoted viewer. “We like giving away a giftcard to the most active people on our Twitch channel.”
Arion, on the other hand, loves to keep his audience engaged with his captivating personality, which he does spectacularly. “I explain how to play the game. I can’t always read comments, so I have to have my mom to help me out. But I will try to answer all of the viewers’ questions.” Knowing your audience is important, and keeping them wanting more is what this young streamer excels in.
What sparked Arion’s passion to be a youtuber/streamer?
Like with any good story, it all starts with someone to inspire them. “I really like Mr. Beast and I wanted to be like him. I love that he gives away money, cars, houses and even food. I would love to be able to do that one day.”
This just goes to show not every dream is about making it big. He may want to have the fame, but he knows that using that to help people and make their lives better is what matters most. By giving his viewers a fun way to escape through his stream, he is already making huge strides as a young age to reach his ultimate goal.
What games do you find easiest to stream?
While Angel admitted earlier that her favorite games to stream are from Jackbox, she admits it can be hard to get enough people together to actually have a game. Because of that, she usually prefers to stream games like Animal Crossing or Among Us. Saying “we can always play and join someone else’s game”, which makes it much easier to keep the stream moving instead of waiting in queues.
Arion loves to stream whatever he is passionate about, no matter the game. “I think Roblox and Minecraft are easier to stream. I like to stream Pokemon, but it’s harder for me because it’s a lot of reading, so my mom helps me. So I like streaming games that don’t have a lot of reading.”
Knowing your strengths is a huge part of this industry, and being able to pick games that the streamer and audience both equally enjoy is a majority of the experience. So Arion knows what games to stream to keep everyone happy.
How long have you two been streaming? Do you intend to do this together for many more years?
This question was answered with much enthusiasm. Having Angel quickly respond with “We’ve been streaming since December of 2020. We were home during covid with not much to do. Arion was asking for a computer to stream on, and at that point, we had enough support to get us affiliated.” Once the duo became affiliated, things became much easier and they both came to realize “I will always play video games.”
Even Arion said “I would like to continue to stream, I think it’s fun to show people how to play the games or how to make something in Minecraft.” Passionate individuals like Arion and Angel both keep games alive and give viewers a reason to pursue new passions. Knowing they keep these dreams alive, they want to do what they can to inspire new generations and eventually have someone to pass the torch to.
Do you have any advice for prospective streamers? What advice would you give to parents who also have children that want to stream?
Angel came right out of the gates, proclaiming “Just go out there and do it. You do it because you love it. Arion and I love it and we love streaming together.” But quickly followed it up with “It’s a big investment. From the computer, the gaming console, and accessories, it’s very costly. I would say if you are able to make this investment, support their dreams.”
But no heartwarming sentiment given by a mother could be followed up without concern for her children, “ Talk to them about internet safety! I always watch Arion when he is streaming and monitor the chat. Always be sure what they (your children) are saying or typing to ‘friends’ online.”
This is a great insight and helpful piece of advice for any parent with a child looking to break into the field. Angel knows it’s vital to support budding dreams, but it is the parent’s job to step in and keep those dreams flying high while still keeping their children safe.
Arion’s motivation lies barreling straight forward, telling us “Do what makes you happy. I’m happy my mom helped me do this because I would not know where to start without her.” Just because passions drive someone in one direction doesn’t mean that they don’t look around and notice the people who helped get them to where they are. Having respect for your support system always pays off, and is a huge part as to why Arion respects his dream and encourages others to share in his passions.
What would your son want to be if he wasn’t a streamer/YouTuber?
No one with a passion as strong as Arion’s would ever want to think about something other than that. But we were curious anyway, so we wanted to query what he might want to be if streaming fell by the wayside. “I don’t want to think about that, but if I had to choose I would be a teacher. I think I would be good at that.”
Being a teacher is, in many ways, like being a streamer. It involves engaging an audience and having a burning passion to share what you love with those who want to aspire to reach your level. After watching some of this duo’s streams, it is clear that Arion would make a great teacher. Although, he still makes an ever better streamer.
