Many gamers are wondering how Sonic x Shadow Generations is different from before.
Sega’s recent release has been receiving outstanding reviews everywhere!
But is it a remake, a sequel, or something in between?
Sonic x Shadow Generations
To put it short and sweet, Sonic x Shadow Generations can be seen as two games. A remaster of Sonic Generations along with an extra Shadow Generations campaign.
Also with this package, we see the original game touched up a bit. The graphics are looking sharper and more optimized for modern hardware.

When it comes to that part of the game, it is mostly the same, apart from the visuals. However, some fans are not happy with the dialogue and visual changes. Specificly, some view certain lines as a form of censorship when compared to the original.
Also, they alter Rogue the Bat’s appearance from the original to be “tamer.” Although this does not affect the gameplay, it does somewhat dampen the experience of having the original altered when really it was just fine.
Especially with regards to the bat as well… come on, Rogue, that’s like her whole stick!
But the main draw with Sonic x Shadow Generations is the Shadow part of the game. His portion of the game is entirely new, with his own campaign and story. Specificly, it focuses on his story from Sonic Adventure 2 and his own PS2 spinoff.
However, this story is not a sequel, as it happens at the same time as Sonic Generations. Unlike the original, Shadow’s hob is more akin to an open-world hub.

It’s absolutely one of the best things about Sonic x Shadow Generations. It feels like their version of intergrating Shadow into his own Sonic Frontiers setting. Also here, players can find hidden levels through using new abilities like a Metroidvania.
But for a large amount of players, this has been one of Sega’s best releases this year!
Chaos Under Control
Along with the likes of Sonic x Shadow Generations and Metaphore Sega, Sega has been on fire this year!

Coming out with the likes of Yakuza, Persona 3, and Super Monkey Ball, fans have started to notice Sega is on the ball… or in the ball.
But in terms of a shadow game, I have heard people say this is his best one. Although Shadow the Hedghehog for PS2 is no magnum opus, it says a lot that for many this new entry has blown their expectations.

It seems like anything involving the blue blur or his friends is a gamble quality-wise. But I mean, the reception has been really stealthy for the game, like I am talking 9/10s and not just from my alternative Roguefanxxx fan accounts on IMDB!
From what I have played, the levels for Sonic x Shadow Generations have been a blast. However, what really excites me is the open-world hub stuff.
It’s great to see the team develop Frontiers ideas even further and with Shadow’s unique playstyle in mind. Hopefully we can see the team pull off a Sonic Frontiers 2 style game in the future.
But in the meantime, if you liked Sonic Generations, then definitely check out Sonic x Shadow Generations.
