After having a disappointing start to the LEC 2023 season, SK Gaming came back in Week 2 to defeat G2, VIT, KOI. SK closed the first week with 1 victory and 2 defeats in their resume. Coming into Week 2 of the LEC, they were huge underdogs against two of the most feared and undefeated teams: G2 and Vitality.
Despite being the underdogs. SK defeated both undefeated teams and added a victory against KOI as a cherry on top of their incredible weekly performance.
SK Gaming LEC 2023, surprising result
The early game was fairly even in this matchup. G2 paid a lot of attention to the topside, while Markoon was focused on the bot lane with a strong early-game jungler in Elise. SK dived G2 bottom lane 3 minutes into the game and secured 2 kills.
However, G2 botlane somehow managed to come back from this and get a 2v2 kill on the enemy ADC.
Throughout the early-mid game, G2 kept sending members to top lane to kill Sion. Meanwhile, SK kept their focus on the bottom-side skirmishes.
This difference in the game plan became the deciding factor in the game as SK kept winning skirmishes in the bottom half of the map. SK defeated G2 in 34 minutes.
SK defeated VIT
In their game against VIT, Markoon repeated his monster Elise performance. He managed to find Bo in jungle and secure the first blood exactly 2 minutes and 50 seconds into the game. This was one of the most important positions of the LEC 2023 season for SK Gaming.
This is really significant because, so far, VIT looked like they are the best early-game team in the LEC. This simple first blood slowed down their early game in a crippling way.
Markoon kept carrying the game with his Elise performance as he ganked bot lane and secured a kill, counter-ganked mid lane to secure two kills, captured the drake, and captured the rift herald.
After this monstrous early game, SK detached VIT from the game with a Skirmish in mid lane. They used Renekton’s TP flank to kill the enemy jungler and used this opportunity to secure the Baron. At this point, the game was pretty much over. SK defeated VIT in a 31-minute game. It was an LoL show by the team.
