German esports organization SK Gaming shared that Motorola will be their new smartphone partner for the next one and a half years.
SK Gaming and Motorola: the details of the collaboration
The partnership was announced by Motorola, who stated that SK Gaming would be a part of their retro-futuristic football cup “Hellomoto Cup 2021”, taking place in Berlin, Germany.
As part of Hellomoto Cup 2021, many players from SK Gaming competed in 1v1 challenges on games like League of Legends: Wild Rift, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, and FIFA Mobile. There also was a mini football tournament that set them against other influencers.
Motorola will support SK Gaming’s mobile esports teams in Clash Royale and Brawl Stars with their phones. Furthermore, the partnership will see the telecom brand help the esports organization’s pro players, content creators, and staff with content creation and social media engagement.
Speaking about the collaboration, Motorola Germany stated that, unlike the outdated stereotypes, gamers today consist of young, athletic, and ambitious people who turn this hobby into a profession. These gamers also actively use social media and events to share their passion with gamers globally. This worldwide connection has created a new community with new and fresh values that welcomes everyone. SK Gaming, commenting on the partnership, pointed out that when they were just starting out, esports were entirely focused on computers.
Yet, these days mobile gaming is becoming more and more important in the professional scene as well as their own operations – SK Gaming field high-tier teams in Brawl Stars and Clash Royale. Both companies also have a shared vision that goes beyond an exchange on the technical level, which can be summarized in Motorola’s slogan “Power to Empower”. Social values, community commitment, and helping people on their path to success through technology are important to Motorola as well as SK Gaming.
What the future holds for SK and Motorola
SK Gaming have revealed that they will host several mobile tournaments with Motorola in the near future as well as participating in joint events at the Saturn XPERION Arena in Cologne, Germany when circumstances permit.
This is not the first time Motorola have been involved in the esports scene. Following in the footsteps of their mother brand, Lenovo, they were the presenting and smartphone partners of Evil Geniuses during the 2020 League Championship Series (LCS) Summer Split. Before that, Motorola Sweden teamed up with ESL Nordic to host the MSPORT NATIONALS in 2017. Their rival Sony has also entered the industry through partnerships with EXCEL Esports and Call of Duty League.
Following the advent of mobile esports, it stands to reason that more and more telecom brands will be building partnerships to access this young and diverse audience with new contact points.
