The latest LoL character is a yordle, as Riot Games officially introduce Vex to the playerbase.
After a trailer dropped last week, Riot Games has officially unveiled League of Legends’ newest champion. Vex, the Gloomy Yordle is the 157th to be added to the League universe and the fourth champion to be developed for 2021.
Vex was long teased in the champion roadmap released earlier this year as a gloomy mage. In the Sentinels event, Vex played a key role in the story with Viego’s quest for the return of his true love. In early August, Riot revealed that Vex would be coming in mid-September and last week, a trailer was dropped for her.
Vex uses her Shadow and dark magic to cause area-of effect damage across the map while using her naturally fitting Doom and Gloom to take down enemy champions.
Let’s take a look at her abilities and hide in the shadows of the Gloomy Yordle.
Doom — Periodically, Vex becomes empowered by Doom, causing her next basic ability to interrupt dashes and Fear enemies.
Gloom — Whenever a nearby enemy dashes or blinks, they becomes marked with Gloom. Vex’s next basic attack against a marked enemy detonates the mark dealing bonus damage and refunding part of Doom’s cooldown.
Q – Mistral Bolt
Vex launches a wave forward, dealing magic damage to enemies it passes through. After a short delay, the wave accelerates but has reduced width. Mistral Bolt detonates Gloom on any marked enemies it hits.
W — Personal Space
Vex gains a shield and emits a shockwave, dealing magic damage to enemies around her. Mistral Bolt detonates Gloom on any marked enemies it hits.
E — Looming Darkness
Shadow flies to a location, increasing in size as it travels. On arriving, Shadow deals amgic damage, slows, and marks enemies hit with Gloom.
R — Shadow Surge
Shadow flies forward, marking and dealing magic damage to the first enemy champion hit. Vex can then recast this ability to have Shadow pull her to the marked target, dealing additional magic damage. If the marked target dies within a short time of taking damage from Shadow Surge, Vex can cast Shadow Surge again within a few seconds.
The gloomy yordle Vex’s kit and personality will make her formidable in LoL. With a straight-forward yet high impact kit, expect to see Vex in the darkness taking her enemies with her.
Vex is expected to hit the PBE later this week and will be released alongside Patch 11.19 in mid-September.
