Game publisher Riot Games partners with jeweler Tiffany & Co. to redesign the League of Legends World Championship Summoner’s Cup.
The redesigned trophy will be unveiled digitally on August 29, 2022, and is part of a new multi-year deal between Tiffany & Co. and Riot Games for League of Legends esports.
In the official press release, the new Summoner’s Cup was made using sterling silver, weighs around 44 pounds (just shy of 20kgs), and stands at approximately 27 inches (68.58cm). The cup was the work of an extensive creative process that took four months to complete.
“The Summoner’s Cup is a symbol of greatness in esports and the crowning achievement in League of Legends.”
Naz Aletaha, Global Head of League of Legends Esports for Riot Games.
“The teams who hoist it represent the best of our sport — their mastery forever a part of LoL Esports’ history. As we looked to build on the prestigiousness of winning a World Championship, there was only one partner we aspired to collaborate with on the Summoner’s Cup. Tiffany & Co is a storied brand and the preeminent designer of the world’s greatest sports trophies. We’re honoured to partner with them to celebrate our past, present, and future World Champions,” commented Naz Aletaha, Global Head of League of Legends Esports for Riot Games.
This is the second time the two have collaborated on a League of Legends project. The first was in 2021 when they collaborated to redesign the LPL Silver Dragon Cup in celebration of the 10th anniversary of League of Legends in China.
In the past, Riot Games has collaborated with various luxury brands to create unique activities and products, especially for the League of Legends World Championship. The most notable was their collaboration with Louis Vuitton to create a trophy case. For the 2021 League of Legends World Championship, Riot Games teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to develop commemorative championship rings.
League of Legends World Championship 2022 will return to North America, with the series starting on September 29, 2022, in Mexico City with the Play-In stage. The new Summoner’s cup will be officially revealed during Worlds 2022.
The partnership between Tiffany & Co. and Riot Games is not only a great addition to their portfolio but also another indicator of the rise of luxury brands entering the esports ecosystem.
