Riot Games has revealed a significant new financial support system for non-partnered teams competing in the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) 2027 ecosystem. Organizations that qualify for the circuit’s biggest events will receive substantial qualification payouts, with teams reaching VALORANT Champions eligible to earn up to $400,000.
The announcement is part of Riot’s broader vision for a more open and competitive esports ecosystem, where teams can climb through the ranks based on performance rather than relying solely on partnership status.
Qualification Rewards for Non-Partner Teams
For the first time in VALORANT esports history, Riot will provide guaranteed qualification bonuses to non-partnered organizations that successfully advance through the competitive circuit.
The qualification payouts for VCT 2027 include:
- $100,000 for qualifying for a Kickoff event or Cup.
- $200,000 for qualifying for a Masters tournament.
- $400,000 for qualifying for VALORANT Champions.
These rewards are separate from prize pool earnings, travel assistance, and other ecosystem support programs available throughout the season.
Riot also announced additional support for the Game Changers scene. Non-partner organizations that qualify for the Game Changers Championship will receive an extra $100,000 qualification payment.
Riot’s Vision for a More Open Esports Ecosystem
The new payout structure reinforces Riot’s commitment to creating a merit-based competitive environment. Since first outlining the VCT 2027 ecosystem earlier this year, the company has emphasized that any team should have a pathway to top-level competition through strong performances.
According to Riot, the financial incentives are designed to help organizations maintain sustainable operations while competing through the open circuit and pursuing international qualification.
Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, stated that the new system is built around rewarding competitive success at every stage while creating more meaningful opportunities for teams worldwide.
The initiative aims to strengthen the long-term health of the ecosystem by ensuring that every match carries significance and that aspiring organizations have tangible rewards for reaching major events.
How the VCT 2027 Competitive Structure Will Work
Alongside the financial announcement, Riot provided further details on the qualification pathways for the 2027 season.
Kickoff tournaments across the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific regions will feature 12 teams, consisting of:
- Eight partnered organizations.
- Four teams advancing through Open Qualifiers.
The top three teams from each Kickoff event will secure spots at the corresponding Masters tournament.
One of the most notable changes is that partnered teams will no longer enjoy guaranteed progression throughout the season. Teams that struggle to perform at Cups or Masters events may be relegated into Open Playoffs, where they must earn their way back into top-tier competition.
Meanwhile, teams without sufficient results, or those eliminated early, will return to Open Qualifiers, creating a dynamic promotion-and-relegation system that keeps competition intense throughout the year.
Expanded Opportunities Across the Pacific Region
Riot also confirmed new qualification opportunities for emerging VALORANT regions.
South Asia and Oceania will compete through the Pacific Wild Card pathway, while dedicated competitions are being introduced for:
- Thailand
- Indonesia
- Vietnam
These additions are intended to strengthen regional representation and provide more opportunities for players and organizations from some of the fastest-growing VALORANT markets.
China Maintains Visitor Team System
The Chinese VCT ecosystem will continue utilizing its visitor team format.
Kickoff events in China will feature:
- Eight partnered teams.
- Two visitor teams.
- Two Open Qualifier teams.
Partnered and visitor organizations will receive direct entry into Kickoff tournaments and the first two Cups of the season.
New Roster Stability Rules
To encourage long-term team development, Riot is implementing roster continuity protections for open and creator-led organizations.
Teams that retain at least three of their five starting players will preserve their competitive points and qualification status throughout the season. The rule is designed to promote organizational stability while allowing successful rosters to build momentum over multiple events.
Riot is expected to share additional information regarding regional slot distribution, qualification formats, and future partner team selection before VALORANT Champions 2026 in Shanghai.
