Just two weeks after the start of season 12, Riot Games have disabled recently introduced Chemtech Drake in League of Legends. This came after heavy criticism from fans regarding the oppressive power of the Chemtech Drake.
The preseason patch for season 12 saw the addition of two new Drakes to the game being, Chemtech and Hextech. Both of these Drakes were deemed powerful and expected to affect the meta; however, Chemtech Drake has been a pain to play against for most players, mainly due to its powerful soul buff, which often makes winning against a team with Chemtech soul impossible.
Riot Games has acknowledged the issue and, as a result, removed Chemtech Drake and its terrain entirely from the game for the time being. That said, Hectech Drake remains in the game, which brings the tally of Drakes in the game to 5. Riot Games also released a blog addressing the issue and plans to adjust Drake’s power and terrains.
“While the Chemtech Drake and its corresponding systems are disabled, we’ll be iterating on design changes to solve the issues with the current versions, while maintaining the spirit of what we were originally trying to achieve. Our primary focus will be on the terrain. This may take time to do right, meaning there’s a chance we won’t bring the Chemtech Drake back for a while,” Riot Games said.
It’s not clear when will Chemtech Drake return to the game. As indicated in the statement, it might take a while before we see the Drake again in the game. This is a positive move and will likely bring more balance to the game. Apart from removing the Drake, Riot Games have also added new champion Zeri to the game. The quirky marksman is now available on live servers and costs 7800 Blue Essence.
