Riot Games has decided not to introduce Last Hit Indicators into League of Legends Ranked queues for the time being, following significant feedback from the community regarding the feature’s impact on competitive gameplay.
In a statement shared on social media, Riot confirmed that Last Hit Indicators will remain exclusive to non-Ranked Summoner’s Rift modes while the developer continues evaluating player feedback and collecting gameplay data.
The Last Hit Indicator is designed to help players secure minion kills by turning a minion’s health bar white when it can be eliminated with a basic attack. Riot initially introduced the system as an optional learning tool aimed at helping newer players improve their farming efficiency.
While many players viewed the feature as a useful accessibility option, others expressed concerns that bringing it into Ranked matches could diminish the skill expression associated with last hitting, one of League of Legends’ most fundamental mechanics.
Community Feedback Leads to Ranked Reversal
Earlier in Patch 26.13, Riot expanded the feature to Normal Draft queues after reporting positive results from testing in Swiftplay and Co-op vs. AI. According to the developer, newer players using the indicator were achieving better farming results and wanted to continue using the tool as they transitioned into standard game modes.
Riot previously argued that the feature would not significantly impact competitive skill expression, noting that players still need to manage positioning, trading patterns, jungle pressure, wave control, and champion power spikes to succeed in lane. The developer also pointed out that many experienced players chose to disable the feature because they found it distracting, reinforcing its role as an optional aid rather than a mandatory gameplay element.
However, after reviewing community reactions, Riot has opted for a more cautious approach. Last Hit Indicators will remain available—but disabled by default—in Swiftplay, Co-op vs. AI, and Normal Draft queues while further testing continues.
The developer stated that additional player feedback and gameplay data will help determine whether the feature should eventually become available in Ranked play.
The discussion surrounding the feature has highlighted the importance of last hitting within League of Legends. Farming efficiently has long been considered a core skill, particularly during the laning phase, and many veteran players believe mastering the mechanic is an essential part of competitive progression.
For now, Ranked gameplay remains unchanged. Riot plans to continue monitoring the feature’s performance and sharing updates through future developer communications before making a final decision on whether Last Hit Indicators belong in League of Legends’ competitive environment.
