Riot Games, known for developing and publishing global hits including League of Legends and Valorant, have announced that Ryan Crosby has been promoted to President of Publishing.
Leading the new marketing initiatives
Crosby, who joined Riot in January 2021 as Head of Global Entertainment Marketing and Consumer Products, will be reporting directly to CEO Nicolo Laurent in his new role. He will be leading Riot’s Worldwide Publishing group, which comprises international publishing, global marketing, player support, localization, commercial initiatives, and other key functions – more than 1000 Rioters in over 20 locations make up the group.
Since joining Riot, Crosby built Riot’s Entertainment Marketing team and led the Consumer Products group. His tenure leading the Entertainment Marketing team saw accomplishments such as crafting the go-to-market strategy of and building anticipation for Riot’s upcoming animated series Arcane, launching the critically acclaimed Session: Vi lo-fi music album, and drawing millions of viewers to the interactive concert experience that featured the eagerly awaited return of League of Legends heavy metal band Pentakill.
Before coming to Riot, Crosby already had over 20 years of marketing and advertising experience under his belt, having worked for brands sitting at the intersection of technology and entertainment like Activision, Microsoft, and Netflix. His most recent position before coming to Riot was at Hulu as Vice President of Marketing, where he oversaw marketing across the company’s brand, original and licensed content, and Live TV business, as well as handling consumer insights and internal creative studio duties.
Combining tech and entertainment for unique experiences
“In his time at Riot, Ryan took ‘hitting the ground running’ to a whole new level and quickly proved that he has the vision and leadership to drive our Publishing division into the next chapter. Our ambitions across games, entertainment, and sports are massive and we need a leader who can see the endgame while keeping us grounded and player-focused in the ways that have made us successful for the past 15 years. Ryan checks all the boxes with his years of gaming expertise and his experience at the intersection of technology and entertainment.”Nicolo Laurent, Riot Games CEO
Speaking about his new role within the company, Crosby stated that while he has been lucky enough to be part of many important moments in gaming and entertainment companies’ histories, he believes Riot is on the cusp of a true once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He added that Riot’s deep and genuine commitment to their players is a competitive advantage unlike anything he has ever seen, and he feels honored to lead a group of world-class Rioters as they will deliver never-before-seen experiences to gamers around the world.
