According to an Upcomer report, 100 Thieves have decided to bench their current in-game leader Joshua “steel” Nissan. The organization will fill the vacant slot with Aaron “b0i” Thao, with no indication yet as to whether b0i will be a permanent addition to their active roster.
The move comes as a bit of a surprise, with 100 Thieves grabbing a top-four placement at the Valorant Champions Tour Stage 3 Berlin Masters. However, the North American organization did bow out to regional rivals Team Envy in a humiliating fashion. steel’s individual performances have also come under question after struggling to get going at the Berlin Masters.
steel joined 100 Thieves in September 2020 and had an immediate impact, with the organization winning First Strike: North America. The team continued being one of North America’s finest for the longest of times and their Berlin Masters performance was also a joy to behold. 100 Thieves not only grabbed a top-four finish but also justified their position as ‘mentality monsters’, coming back time and again from the depths of defeat.
Reporter George Geddes has also stated that Nicolas “nitr0” Cannella will likely take over the reins of being the 100 Thieves IGL. nitr0 has previous experience as an IGL from his time in Counter Strike: Global Offensive as part of Team Liquid.
As for b0i, the 24-year-old has been a controller main in Valorant thus far and was part of the up-and-coming AndBox roster. However, b0i was released in May 2021 by AndBox, with the player quietly joining 100 Thieves as a substitute in July.
The changes are likely to take effect immediately, with 100 Thieves set to field the new roster at the North American Last Chance Qualifiers for Valorant Champions. The LCQ begins on October 12 and it will be intriguing to see the level of preparation 100 Thieves will come with, especially with less than a month left for the event.
