Many are wondering if the PS5 Pro vs. RTX 4070 GPU is a fair comparison to make.
Some groups have claimed that the value for the console is similar to a PC with a 4070.
However, is this really the case, or is there more to it than meets the eye?
PS5 Pro vs. RTX 4070
So the PS5 Pro was announced by Sony a while ago, and the price has been memed to hell and back. It costs a whopping 700 dollars in the States and almost 900 dollars in the UK! But that’s not even including the disc drive, which costs nearly a hundred bucks more!

However, some have argued the value for the PS5 Pro console is equal to that of a 4070 gaming PC. This is due to the PS5 Pro’s advanced ray tracing, which no AMD GPU currently has. This has led some to compare the Pro to the GTX 4070, which comes with this feature.
So as the 4070 is the only card to compare that has AI upgrading and advanced ray tracing, some believe that equates to equal value.

But this does not work out with some of the technologies, really. You see the AI upscaling works like this where you are playing the game at 1080, which then the DSSL upscales to make it look 4K with AI.
Technically, you are not really playing 4K but just an illusion that looks about as good and helps with the frames. This does lead to some input lag with games, which is a whole issue I cannot see with the Pro.
But the PS5 Pro vs. RTX 4070 does not work as it can only manage 864p upscaled at 60fps. If you look at the 4070 running bench marks on similar, it can achieve a solid 70fps upsaling 1080 to 4k.
Also, the CPU of the PS5 Pro is not going to be anything near what runs along with a 4070. Plus, a lot of the games on the Pro are going to be running with low settings for that 60. Also turn off PSSR; you are looking at around 45 to 50.
So you are not really getting native 4K with the Pro sometimes.
PSSR Ai Upscaling
The Playsation Pro boasts Sony’s latest PSSR upscaling. I have to get into the whole Ai upscaling thing now, which I feel looking online a lot of people do not understand.
Running native 4K will always be preferable to running AI upscaled. As mentioned before, it can cause input lag, sound, and some other issues, whose results may vary.
But it looks like people are seeing, oh, 4k and 60fps now with PSSR, so now it’s better! However, I think this image can kind of get across the issue here.

Some games on the Pro may boast 4K 60 fps, but you are getting a worse output compared to the native PS5 console.
With the PS5 Pro vs. RTX 4070, you really should be worried about the reality on PSSR. For PC gamers on a 4070, the DLSS upscale is optional. For most rigs, you can achieve 4K or decent frames without it. However, the PS5 Pro seems to solely rely on that technology for it.

So now you have to put up with everything bad that comes with AI upscaling in its infancy. This may and most likely will improve over time for the console. But are you willing to shell out the money for a slight, all-be it kind of obscure performance boost?
