Pokémon Go is celebrating its 10th anniversary in style, giving Trainers the chance to claim a free Mewtwo with perfect stats, a special anniversary background, and a significant boost toward Mega Mewtwo Y progression.
The reward arrives as part of the game’s ongoing anniversary celebrations, which have already featured the debut of Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, along with a massive live event in New York City’s Times Square.
Free Max-Stat Mewtwo Available Through Timed Research
As part of the anniversary event, all Trainers can access a special Timed Research line that rewards a guaranteed Mewtwo with maxed-out stats and a unique moon-themed Special Background.
For many players, the reward removes one of the most difficult parts of collecting Legendary Pokémon: finding a perfect IV version through raids and lucky encounters.
The featured Mewtwo also comes with its third Mega Level unlocked for Mega Mewtwo Y, making it valuable even for Trainers who already have multiple Mewtwo in their collection.
With perfect stats, a unique background, and advanced Mega progression, this anniversary reward is one of the most generous giveaways Pokémon Go has offered in recent years.
Don’t Miss the Deadline
There is one important catch.
The anniversary Timed Research expires on September 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. local time. Trainers must complete all required tasks and claim the rewards before the deadline.
Unlike Special Research, which remains available indefinitely, this Timed Research will disappear once the event ends. Any unfinished tasks or unclaimed rewards will be lost.
Players hoping to add the perfect Mewtwo to their collection should make sure they complete the research before time runs out.
Times Square Event Recreated a Classic Pokémon Go Moment
The anniversary celebration also included one of the biggest live events in Pokémon Go history.
More than 1,500 Trainers gathered in Times Square on July 9 to take part in a synchronized battle against Mega Mewtwo Y, recreating the iconic final scene from Pokémon Go’s original 2015 launch trailer.
The event finally brought one of the game’s most memorable marketing moments to life, with hundreds of players joining forces to take down one of the franchise’s most powerful Pokémon.
Trainers who attended the Times Square celebration will receive a different Mewtwo reward featuring its own unique stats and bonuses.
A Fitting Anniversary Pokémon
Few Pokémon are more closely tied to Pokémon Go’s history than Mewtwo.
The Legendary Pokémon served as the centerpiece of the game’s original launch trailer, which ended with Trainers from around the world uniting to battle Mewtwo together.
Ten years later, Pokémon Go has recreated that vision through its anniversary events and is now giving every Trainer an opportunity to add a powerful version of the iconic Legendary to their collection.
Whether you’re a longtime player or returning for the anniversary festivities, the free max-stat Mewtwo is a reward worth claiming before it disappears.
