Discord and PlayStation team up to bring gamers the ultimate cross-platform experience. First came cross-play, and now Discord voice chat is available on the PS5.
This integration means that players can now connect with their friends and play the games they love, regardless of the platform they use.
Discord has been a gamer’s paradise for almost eight years now, but it’s not just for gamers anymore. Other groups of people are now starting to use the platform too.
Therefore, PlayStation released a beta version of Discord that could be downloaded on the PlayStation 4. This allowed you to access Discord from more than just your laptop and your phone. Fortunately, the beta has ended, and global access is now available to all.

However, it’s not quite the access available on the PS5. While you can connect your PS4 and show your PlayStation Network Status on Discord, you cannot transfer Discord voice chat for the PS4.
This is a PS5-only feature. But fear not, because with Discord now available on both consoles, you can chat with your Discord friends while on your PS5 or PS4. Furthermore, you can come together and enjoy multiplayer games, no matter if people are playing on PC, mobile, or a different Discord-supported console.
How to Setup Discord on the PS5
If you’ve ever linked an external Connection to your Discord profile before, it’s a similar method to connect your account for PlayStation Network to your Discord account.
First, make sure your PS5 is fully up to date with the latest system software. This should be automatic when you sign in, and you’ll just have to greenlight the update when it pops up.
The Discord team will be rolling out the ability for users to link their Discord and PlayStation Network accounts on Discord starting today. Gamers can currently use Discord Voice chat on PlayStation 5 by linking their accounts from their PS5.
To start connecting your accounts on Discord, head into User Settings > Connections on either desktop, web, or mobile.
Select the PlayStation logo within the Connections menu and follow the process to get your account for PlayStation Network linked to your Discord account! It looks like this:
Once you sign in and link your accounts, you’re all set — now, you can voice chat with your Discord friends on your PS5, no matter what platform they’re on.
(If you’ve previously linked your account for PlayStation Network to display what game you’re playing, you’ll have to link your account again to grant the permissions needed for Voice. If you were lucky enough to try out Discord Voice on PS5 during the beta phase, you won’t need to link again.)

How to Use Discord Voice on PS5
Now that your Discord and PlayStation accounts are all cozy and connected, it’s time to talk with your Discord friends on your PS5.
On mobile, slide up the Voice controls and you’ll see a new button that says “Join on PlayStation.” On desktop, the button looks sort of like a phone and a game controller next to each other.
Next, you’ll be asked to choose which console you want to transfer your Voice conversation to. Gamer Magic happens in the background and BOOM, your PS5 is where your conversation takes place at.
On console, you’ll be able to use all the familiar controls from Discord: mute or lower the volume of others while you get a snack, see the name of the voice channel you’re vibin’ in and hang up the call once you’re done — and it’s even faster to get talking with your DualSense™ controller’s built-in microphone.
Additional PlayStation Updates
Additionally, the update introduces variable refresh rate support for 1440p, allowing smoother visuals for VRR-compatible HDMI 2.1 displays at 1440p resolution. The game library now filters PSVR and PSVR 2 titles.

Data transfer between different PS5 consoles has also been added, and PS4-to-PS5 save data transfer has been significantly streamlined.
