Palworld has been enjoying enormous success since its launch, but there has certainly been no shortage of comparisons with the game from which it draws inspiration, namely Pokemon. Palworld, in fact, has been defined as a “Pokemon with guns,” and this description is not entirely incorrect. In this Palworld vs Pokemon article, therefore, we will try to show off the similarities and differences between these two games so as not to create confusion among users.
Palworld vs Pokemon: Similarities
Let’s start, first of all, by talking about the similarities between the two games. In both, we have the possibility of being able to capture creatures of different types with their characteristics. Furthermore, we have the possibility to breed them and be able to take part in the egg incubation process.
Among other things, we point out the fact that the process of capturing Pals is very similar to that of Pokemon. In fact, in Palworld, you will have Pal Spheres at your disposal that will allow you to capture these creatures. A system, therefore, very similar to that of Poke balls.
The closest thing, probably, is the design of the creatures. Many Pals, in fact, are very similar or at least are visibly inspired by certain types of Pokemon. It is also for this reason, in fact, that many are wondering whether Nintendo is planning to pursue a lawsuit against the Palworld developers.
Palworld vs Pokemon: Differences
However, Palworld and Pokemon are not the same game at all. True, Palworld takes inspiration from Pokemon, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t also have its own identity. The first substantial difference concerns precisely the type of genre. In fact, Palworld is a survival game, so you will also have to take into account elements such as hunger, thirst, etc. In Pokemon, this doesn’t happen.
Additionally, in Pokemon, the creatures are not equipped with firearms and combat revolves around turn-based combat only. In Palworld, however, everything is dynamic and fire weapons have great importance in the game’s economy. Another difference, then, lies in the fact that, for example, Pals cannot evolve, which instead happens to Pokemon. Furthermore, for this reason, let’s not forget that there are many more creatures in Pokemon than in Palworld.
Finally, even if it doesn’t really concern anything related to gameplay, another difference is that Pokemon is only available on Nintendo consoles, while Palworld is currently available in Early Access on PC and Xbox and will also arrive on other consoles in the future. As a result, it gives more people the chance to play it.
Ultimately, we can say that Palworld and Pokemon certainly have points in common (the capture system, the division of creatures, etc.), but there are also many other aspects that, in reality, make the games truly different. From the point of view of the actual gameplay, in fact, Palworld is much more similar to ARK: Survival Evolved than to Pokemon. Consequently, it is up to you to choose, based on your characteristics, tastes, and aptitudes, which of the two games is best for you.
