Although it has hit a huge milestone for players, there are some Palworld AI art accusations being thrown around.
The hot new surivival crafting game-inspired game has sparked some controversy.
But let’s take a deeper look into them and why people think so.
Palworld AI Art Accusations Details
Palworld was released recently on Steam and has already gained over 5 million players! This game is a cross between Rust and Pokemon Arceus. In this game, players are thrown into an undiscoverable world filled with pals.
These pals (that resemble some Pokemon, you may know) can be captured and hunted, and they can even be used to build camps and run minning operations. One of the main images is of a bunch of pals working on a gun-making conveyor belt.

If this has not already sold you the game, then I don’t know what will!

But with success comes attention, and with attention comes analysis. Some people are accusing the game of infringing on Nintendo’s Pokemon IP, while others claim that the team has used AI art to handle most of the work.
The Pokemon inspiration is blatantly clear, but the examples of plagiarism are a gray area. We have examples of clear direct inspirations, but to say that they are one-to-one copies is a bit dissingenuous. This game has been in development for three years, and if Nintendo got even a whiff of a potential lawsuit, they would have already pulled the plug on it.
But user Zytri on Twiter makes some Palworld AI art accusations based on the company’s past and hiring history. According to this user, the developers at Pocketpair have made games in the past mainly around using AI-generated images.
They also claim that the artists were able to make designs so quickly using AI art. But have they, and if so, is that a big deal? It really depends, as AI is a great tool for assisting developers, but solely relying on it can lead to subpar results.
Triple AAA Developers Take a Shot
The spark around the use of AI to develop the game has led to a greater debate around AI as a whole. But recently, a Naughty Dog developer on Twitter took a crack at the developers of Palworld, claiming that the game was “made nefariously.”.
They claim that this is because of the developer’s intentions and that it was made to cause such disruptions. But some people online argue that AAA developers such as this are simply jealous of its success.

Did you know Last of Us 2 is getting a remaster? No, not a lot of people do, but a group of amateur game developers have managed to make millions over the weekend with a rather lax idea. Would that not make some developers a little envious, given the circumstances?
Either way you feel about the matter, one thing is certain, and that is that the game is selling very well. It has already topped the steam charts with over one million concurrent players!
Maybe this is the wake-up GameFreak needs to get out of their comfort zone and push their own limits. You can buy Palworld on Steam right now.
