Blizzard Entertainment has revealed a major lineup of upcoming Overwatch content during BlizzCon 2026, including the game’s newest hero, a new map, major changes for Sombra and Roadhog, and a free Mythic reward for players.
The announcements also set the stage for the next chapter of Overwatch, with Season 5 scheduled to launch on October 6 and the current Reign of Talon storyline moving toward its conclusion.
Doctrine Joins Overwatch as Hero 54
The biggest reveal is Doctrine, a vampire-inspired Support hero who has ties to Doomfist and Talon.
Doctrine is already available through a limited-time Hero Trial running until September 14, giving players an early opportunity to test his abilities before his full arrival with Season 5.
The new Support hero is built around manipulating lifeforce through his scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones. His introduction will also play an important role in the ongoing Reign of Talon storyline, which Blizzard says will reach its conclusion during Season 5.
Blizzard has also teased Hero 55, offering players an early clue about where Overwatch will head in 2027.
New Watchpoint: Grímsvötn Map Revealed
Season 5 will also introduce Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, a new Escort map set at a remote prison in Iceland.
The volcanic location becomes the setting for Doomfist and Doctrine’s reunion, helping establish the final chapter of the current Talon storyline.
The new map adds another location to Overwatch’s Escort rotation while expanding the narrative surrounding Doomfist and his connection to Doctrine.
Sombra and Roadhog Are Getting Major Reworks
Two established heroes are also receiving significant gameplay changes in Season 5.
Sombra will undergo one of the most notable role changes in the game’s current roster, moving from Damage to Support. Her new design will give her more ways to assist teammates while retaining elements of her identity as a hacker and infiltrator.
Roadhog will also receive a major rework. Blizzard is changing his kit to give him a different role in team fights, including adjustments to his existing abilities and new gameplay options.
The changes are intended to give both heroes a fresh identity when Season 5 arrives.
Players Can Earn a Free Mythic Voucher
Blizzard is also rewarding the Overwatch community during its BlizzCon celebration.
Players who complete one game after the Opening Ceremony can earn a Mythic Voucher. The voucher can then be exchanged in the Mythic Shop for one eligible complete Mythic bundle from Seasons 1 through 14.
The selected bundle includes the base Mythic Skin and its standard customization levels. Aspects are not included.
Players who already own the base level of every eligible Mythic Skin will instead receive 50 Mythic Prisms.
The voucher can be earned and redeemed between September 12 and October 5.
QuestWatch Brings Overwatch to the Tabletop
Blizzard is also expanding its BlizzCon programming with QuestWatch, the first live Overwatch tabletop role-playing game one-shot.
Matt Mercer will serve as Game Master, with Cassidy, Sombra, Symmetra, Reinhardt, and Vendetta represented by their respective voice actors. The adventure will be non-canon and will explore a new scenario outside the game’s main storyline.
QuestWatch will be followed by an online charity auction supporting Make-A-Wish.
Overwatch World Cup and Musical Performances
The Overwatch World Cup will also reach its conclusion at BlizzCon, with the final eight teams competing for the championship.
The event will feature live musical performances as well, including appearances from LE SSERAFIM and YOASOBI. LE SSERAFIM will perform during the closing ceremony, while YOASOBI will perform on Day 2 of the Overwatch World Cup.
Blizzard has also confirmed that Overwatch Spotlight will return in February 2027, where the developer plans to share its roadmap for the year ahead.
With Doctrine, a new map, two major hero reworks, the conclusion of the Reign of Talon storyline, and a look toward 2027, Overwatch has plenty of changes lined up for players following BlizzCon.
Season 5 officially launches on October 6.
