When trying to pick optimal heroes into D.Va, it may seem difficult at first. She can easily negate most attacks from others, can dish out a good amount of damage, and she can easily make big, flashy plays that win her team the game. However, while she may be a well-rounded hero, she can still be beaten. In order to better help players pick appropriately into this matchup, here are 3 Overwatch heroes that counter D.Va.

D.Va counter #3: Mei
When trying to prioritize a damage-based hero that can also help crowd control opponents, Mei is a great pick into this matchup. Since her Endothermic Blaster cannot be stopped by D.Va’s Defense Matrix, if she tried to lead a charge for a checkpoint or objective, Mei can easily use her weapon to slow down and eventually freeze D.Va, leaving her exposed. This allows Mei’s team to launch a counter-attack that can help them finish a game-winning fight.
Another major advantage to choosing Mei for this matchup is her Ice Wall ability. In a game against D.Va, it has more than one use. Its first perk is that it can stop D.Va from charging with her Boosters. A well-timed surprise wall can stop her dead in her tracks and will force D.Va and her team to retreat and look for another way to capture a point. Its second perk is that it can be used to protect Mei’s team from a Self-Destruct. By casting the wall right before D.Va’s mech explodes, Mei can save herself and her team, allowing them to keep pressure on an objective to win them the game.
D.Va counter #2: Zarya
When looking for a tank to go up against a D.Va, there are few better options than Zarya. Similar to Mei, D.Va cannot block Zarya’s Particle Cannon beam with her Defense Matrix. This means that it will be Zarya’s job to deal damage to D.Va when she has her shields up. Then, once she is low enough, her team can push forward to win a fight and take control of an objective.
Another advantage to choosing Zarya here is her Particle Barrier and Projected Barrier. With both of these, she can protect both herself and her allies from an oncoming onslaught headed by D.Va. Since she can dish out a good amount of damage, especially with her Self-Destruct, this ability can be life-saving. When casting these shields at the right time, she can keep her team in the game after a risky exchange and can keep pushing for a winning fight.
D.Va counter #1: Cole Cassidy
For those trying to find another optimal damage-based hero to go into this matchup, Cole Cassidy is certainly in the running. However, there are certainly some caveats to picking him. One of them is that D.Va can block his attacks and his ultimate with her Defense Matrix. This means that he will have to wait for the shield to go down for him to even try to attack. However, he wouldn’t be on this list if he wouldn’t be able to handle D.Va in a big way.
A pro to picking Cassidy is that his Flashbang is a cure-all for killing D.Va. With it, he can stop D.Va from charging at his team, protecting not only his allies but the checkpoint they are trying to protect/capture. Once D.Va leaves her mech, Cassidy can easily take control of the game. With just a barrage of attacks from his Peacekeeper, he can easily take out the now low-health opponent. Then, without a means to soak up all the damage, D.Va’s team will be left defenseless and forced to move away from the objective.
