For those players who want a little bit of everything, Ashe is an ideal pick. She can deal damage at a variety of ranges with her weapon, The Viper, and can crowd-control her opponents with her Coach Gun. Not only that, but B.O.B can easily act as a frontline for her team if a tank is down. She also has her Dynamite, which is really one of her bread-and-butter abilities. With it, she can deal a burst of AoE damage that can do a good amount of damage to any unsuspecting enemy.
While Ashe certainly has the potential to be a strong hero, there are still ways that she can be beaten. In order to help players find out how to win in this matchup, here are 3 Overwatch heroes that counter Ashe.
Ashe counter #3: Wrecking Ball
When players are looking for a tank to pick into Ashe, Wrecking Ball is at the top of the list. Since he can easily use his Grappling Claw or Roll to maneuver around at such high speeds, he can dodge most of her attacks. Not only that, but once the gap is closed between the two, Wrecking Ball can easily go all-out and take Ashe out. Another plus to picking him in this matchup is his damage.
With his Quad Cannons, he can go toe-to-toe with most heroes in a 1v1 fight, and there is no exception here. To top it all off, if Wrecking Ball is in a bad fight against an Ashe and things start to head south, he can easily use his Adaptive Shield to protect himself or even escape with the same abilities he can use to engage.
One caveat to picking this hero into Ashe is that he is very weak to B.O.B. Since he can knock up targets and deal so much damage at once, Wrecking Ball would not be able to keep up with no support. Because of that, he will have to be careful when getting too far ahead of his team. So it is best that he deal with Ashe before she gets the chance to activate this ability.
Ashe counter #2: Genji
For those looking to pick a damage-oriented hero into this matchup, Genji is an ideal fit. With his Deflect ability, he can easily move in on Ashe without having to worry about taking too much damage from her basic attacks. Then, once he is close enough, he can use Swift Strike to maneuver around her. If used correctly, he can even dash around her Coach Gun, preventing him from being knocked back, and allowing him to pick up an easy kill. Another bonus to picking Genji is that he can also use his Deflect to get around B.O.B.’s arm cannons, assuming he can take him out fast enough.
Something for Genji players to watch out for in this matchup is Ashe’s Dynamite. Genji cannot deflect this and will have a hard time dashing around it. So if he gets hit by this ability, he will be put at risk of dying to Ashe’s powerful short-ranged attacks or the hands of one of her allies. Because of that, it is best to bait out the ability first so that Genji can move in for a safe play that can get his team an objective with no casualties.
Ashe counter #1: Sombra
Overwatch players are always looking for ideal counters for those pesky heroes they have trouble beating. However, for those picking Sombra into a matchup against an Ashe, they will find that she can put in a lot of work. With her Stealth ability, she can sneak up behind her opponent so that she won’t have to worry about the initial hit of the Coach Gun or Dynamite. From there, she can easily use her Machine Pistol to deal enough damage to take Ashe out before she can even retaliate. Another big pro to playing Sombra is her Hack and EMP abilities. With both of these, she can prevent Ashe from using any of her abilities, including B.O.B.. Since he is such a big part of her kit, with it gone, Sombra and her team can push forward for a game-winning fight that won’t cost them anything.
It is always important to use caution in this matchup when using Stealth. If Sombra comes out of Stealth without a Translocator to go back to and she gets caught out by the enemy, she will be in a very bad spot and can easily lose her team an objective. Because of that, it is important to plan before making the play and set up a Translocator or make sure Ashe is alone so that something like that doesn’t happen.
