Old battle pass skins are back…!
Overwatch 2 players have been begging Blizzard to bring back old battle pass skins, but for quite a while, those pleas have gone unanswered. Most of the community was certain that they would never come back. And if they did, it would be financially demanding, leaving many free-to-play players out of the loop.
However, that whole idea was recently turned on its head. With the newest Overwatch 2 update, old battle pass skins, as well as some old shop skins, are having a resurgence. And it’s thanks to the new Overwatch 2 Anniversary Event. So, to celebrate the occasion, Blizzard is making a point to bring back plenty of old cosmetics for players to purchase.
Skins like Beekeeper Sigma and Space Raider Cassidy, skins previously only in their respective season’s special bundles, are back in a special anniversary shop just for the event. There are also old shop skins coming back, such as Hermes Lucio and Ice Angel Echo, that are available to pick up in the same anniversary shop tab.
These old skins, both from the shop and battle pass, are supposed to be rotating regularly with the typical shop updates, meaning that those are just the start. Hopefully, we will get plenty more cosmetics for the remainder of the event. This is great for those who didn’t get them on the first round, and now have a second chance. So it’s best to get the ones you want fast!
… And they’re free?!
However, the best part of it all is that none of it uses coins, they all use legacy credits. This means that free-to-play players won’t have to spend a penny to pick up these skins. Just by playing the game and earning credits through challenges, anyone can grab these cosmetics.
Bringing back old shop skins is great, bringing back old battle pass skins is even better, but making them practically free is in a league in all its own. Hopefully Blizzard will take a page from this book and have more events outside of the Anniversary event in the future.
