The Qatari telecom company Ooredoo aims to establish a significant presence in the fast-growing esports industry.
Partnering with esports experts
Ooredoo, who are seen as digital lifestyle innovators in the Qatar region, have signed an agreement with Quest LLC, the first and largest Qatari company focusing exclusively on esports, to launch their esports brand. Quest were the go-to pick as they have been operating in the region for over 6 years, focusing on online and offline tournament organization, team management, and content creation.
With the collaboration, Ooredoo will be launching their own esports brand: Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land. They aim to build this brand into a community transcending geographical boundaries and growing fast, where gamers of every kind can invent, innovate, create and evolve.
Ooredoo made the decision to enter esports after industry analysts identified the field as a key economic trend in markets as well as a future driver of telecommunications business strategy – esports is a multi-billion-dollar industry of global significance according to them. The telecom company seeks to position itself as the go-to brand for this young, data-intensive, and high-revenue market, establishing itself as a leader in the esports scene and building important revenue streams.

The partnership was announced as part of a dedicated event that saw the attendance of higher management from both companies: Quest LLC CEO Elie Honain and Ooredoo CEO Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulla al-Thani were among those present.
What activities are planned by Ooredoo for the esports scene?
Through their newly established brand, Ooredoo will launch a series of products, services, and campaigns that will be specifically targeting gamers. A series of esports tournaments are also in the plans, which will allow the telecom company to identify the best talent in the region and form their own esports team to represent Ooredoo in regional and global esports events.
The next step will be organizing global tournaments, seeing the participation of international teams. Ooredoo CEO Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulla al-Thani stated that they were thrilled to see the plans for establishing and nurturing what could be the most exciting esports teams in the world, backed by the most competent partners and tapping into the active participation of the local youth. He also added that in order to become a marketing pioneer, Ooredoo would pursue more strategic initiatives such as these, setting the pace and the tone for esports in the region.
