Major, we have info on a new Snake Eater scarring mechanic shown off with these latest screenshots.
Konami’s highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater remake looks to add some more features to the fold.
But is this new mechanic any good, or will it distract them from the core of the game?
Permanent Snake Eater Scarring Mechanism
Fear is the word I think of when I hear about this game. I’m not talking about that one boss who likes to stick his tongue out in the game. But fear of Konami messing up this remake for what may be one of the best PS2 games ever made right next to MGS 2.

We have taken some screenshots of the updated UI, showing off the camera and surveillance menu. It looks pretty sleek while staying faithful to the original, so good job, Konami. But what is more interesting is seeing the new permanent scarring mechanic in play.
It was revealed during the summer showcase that Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater will be getting a new battle damage system. Do not worry, they are not messing with the battle system (or, at least hopefully), but instead adding permanet scarring to Snake.

What this means is that throughout the game, when Snake takes damage and is healed, some scars will remain. These will show up normally on the player in the medical menu and in game. But some wounds will leave a scar throughout the entire game. Also, certain types of damage will be shown, leaving different marks such as cuts, burns, and bullet holes.
In short, if you play the game like a braindead rambo tanking as many bullets as the Shagohold, then I am going to be able to tell just by looking at your snake. My snake is going to be clean as a whistle because I have played this game 12 times already!
Snake Eater Has Changed
Also, the developers have stated that the game will include legacy and modern controls. One being more like the original release with fixed camera angles. And the modern controls are playing more like… well, probably the 3D version with or without MGSV, to be honest.

You know there have already been like four versions of Metal Gear Solid 3, right? You got the original, then Subsitence, which added more handy over-shoulder cameras. Then you got the HD release on 5th generation, which was just subsistance minus Ape Escape missions.
And then you had the one on 3DS that added crouch-walking from Peacewalker but ran at like 12FPS! Also, you have the latest Master Collection, which adds 4K textures to the HD release but also has no Ape Escape missions and is slightly overpriced!
There comes a point when enough is enough, right? And again, it’s most likely not going to have Ape Escape or any Nintendo references in mind. It’s going to look pretty, I suppose, and take up about 60 GB of hard drive space.

The thing with these remakes is that they add modern resolution sizes, so everyone is happy at the cost of game size. Sure, let me play Tetris with my file spaces on the PC real quick. I know that’s not a huge concern for some, but for people who like to keep their games handy, it’s a concern.
The master collection was 13 GB for three, which is fair enough. But that’s a PS2 remake. Whats an Unreal 5 game version going to look like? I don’t trust Konami to compress their files for love or money.
I won’t complain if it has Ape Escape included, though I will kneel for that! Also this new Snake Eater Scarring Mechanic does sound like an intersting addition.
