NetherRealm has recently announced that MK1’s Smoke will be voiced by Yuri Lowentha!
New fighters and a surprising voice actor have been announced for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1.
Here are the new combatants and the iconic voice actor coming to Earth realm…
MK1 Smoke & Rain Announced for Main Roster
Just recently, NetherRealm uploaded a gameplay trailer showing off the reimagined Lin Kuei.
In this trailer, Smoke was featured prominently, showing off his new style and gameplay mechanics. They have confirmed he will join the main roster of fighters.
Also announced for the main roster is Rain, who is spouting a new look and playstyle as well. His presence in the story seems to suggest a rivalry between him and the Lin Kuei faction.
Meanwhile, for Kameo Fighters, we have Frost, Cyrax, and Sektor to look forward to assisting our fights. Each Cybotyic Ninja showed a unique assist function as well as their own X-ray cinematic.
Initially a secret character back in Mortal Kombat 2, Smoke appears to play a more vital role in the main story, fighting alongside Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Another interesting aspect to note is that they have decided to go with his human form, more akin to Mortal Kombat 2011 than his original cyborg getup.
Additionally, Twitter user thethiny has put together a handy image showing off the currently confirmed roster for MK1.
Mortal Kombat 1 Smoke to be Voiced by Yuri Lowentha
However, fans were quick to point out a certain voice actor during the reveal trailer for Smoke.
American voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, best known for his iconic voice roles such as Sasuke in the hit, ongoing anime series Naruto, is voicing the beloved MK1 Smoke Fighter.
But funnily enough, from the trailer, we can definitely sense him channelling his ninja voice acting experience for the Lin Kuei ninja.
Yuri is no stranger to video game voice acting, having voiced Peter Parker in the recent Amazing Spider-Man Sony games.
Also to note, this is not Yuri’s first time voicing for Mortal Kombat, as he was Kobra in the animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind.
Certainly, judging from the trailer, Yuri is an excellent choice for the voice of Smoke. He has just the right amount of sadness and edge to really complement the character.
We still have a dozen more main roster and Kameo fighters to be announced! In the coming months leading up to release, Nether Realm may drop some more info on the speculated Mortal Kombat 1 DLC characters as well.
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on Sept. 19.
