The new Minecraft Dragon Ball Z DLC adds a fighting game mode to the mix!
Mojang’s latest collab with Bandai Namco has seen Kakarot and the gang added to the block world.
But how will this new game mode work, and is it just Bed Wars with Big Bang attacks?
Minecraft Dragon Ball DLC
Firstly, the Minecraft Dragon Ball Z DLC is not just a texture pack with some spiky hair added on. It adds a whole new map and playstyle to the game, being an overhaul like the Sonic DLC.
But here they change up character movement and fighting to be similar to the anime. So now you can literally fly and instant-transmit around like Goku or any character you unlock.
Before that you got to unlock characters in the hyperbolic time chamber map. Once defeated, each character can become selectable online and in bot matches.

However, Minecraft Dragon Ball is not the tightest fighter out there, being in the block game cod. Although it does work as an entertaining cooldown-based arena fighter. Much like the Budokai games, or more so Raging Blast, you control your fighter in a 3D space, being able to fly around and use Ki charges.

But your moves are not linked to a Ki meter and all run on cooldowns as you build meter to charge for an ultimate. Meanwhile, waiting for that, you throw out little ki blasts and slaps to bring the enemy’s health down.

Add on some blocking to negate damage and dashes for spacing. Again, it’s not the most airtight fighting game ever made nor even the most competitive DBZ game. However, it’s a fun little Minecraft mode that is paid for that does the job well enough given the setting.
Also, I am just a sucker for the sprite work and maps that do well enough to showcase Toriyama’s works.
DragonBlock Z
Although it’s not the title I would have gone with, the DLC for just 9 bucks is not a bad time. Honestly, it’s not something that I would sink hours into or be labbing on weekends.

However, for fans of DBZ and Minecraft, it’s a done deal for a fun little distraction from the main game. Also Minecraft Dragon Ball has other modes for you to enjoy and some collectables around the hub map to go and find.
But really your enjoyment is going to stem out of how much you love throwing Ki blasts. And doing it with mates is going to make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable.

You can just play regular Minecraft with the Goku and Saiyan hair skins, as the scouter and hairpiece are free to use. But to fly around and blast them with lasers, you have to cough up the dough.
Although you know you could just buy FighterZ for that same price and get a fighting game that is still competitively played to this day. However, I understand that there are little DBZ fans who get instant transmissioned to the grounded chamber as soon as perfect Mama sees them play any other games than the funny block game.
Personally, I was only allowed to play the Sam I Am visual novel until I was 20, so I know the pain!
