A new Metal Gear Solid Coop mod is in the works Snake commence downloading!
Mod maker Felipe has a current Alpha build for the upcoming release.
But what is this modification and what does it do to the original game worth trying?
Metal Gear Solid Coop Mod
Firstly the Metal Gear Solid Coop is not out yet.
Instead what we have is a pre alpha trailer showing it in action. But this is the first attempt to bring the original PlayStation classic into a true online multiplayer experience. Something the original game was never designed to support.
The creator known as Felipe emphasis that this is not a reimagined or a remake. Instead it is just a straight lift made to work with a friend!
But the mod is based on the GOG PC version. Each player controls their own Snake and has their own camera while exploring Shadow Moses Island, fighting enemies and bosses together.
However, the game will also be adjusted for two players, bosses can have more health, and there could be more enemy reinforcements. Think of it like Elden ring when they get tougher the more friends you have.
Although it has been 20 years the team are amendment it can be done and really fun. But there are some big hurdles for Metal Gear Solid Coop. Firstly the camera is not a shared one so players could end up fighting over it.
Secondly cut-scenes are quire the issue as they are not just movie segments. Kojima likes a bit of interaction spliced in his cut scenes. Therefore a second player could mess up that cheeky arse peek or look around section.
Currently the boys are experimenting with the functionality of the multiplayer mode. There are still a few sequences they have not converted to two player but they are hard at work as we speak.
Its Not Over Yet
Although it has been 20 years since the release of MGS1 this is exactly the type of thing to get me playing again. The Metal Gear Solid Coop is an exciting adjustment I want to try out as soon as possible.
I have played the game a few times over but it is time a few buddies of mine hopped on. There was the Twin Snakes remake and let us be frank… It is mid.
As an introduction to Metal Gear Solid and your first game it sucks. The tone is ruined, characters are flanderised and the mechanics are broken. But as a game following the trilogy its a fun little throwback with the ease of MGS2’s engine.
However this Metal Gear Solid Coop mod is the true PS1 classic. Sure some elements of the atmosphere are lost with a buddy; Although the experience of messing around with it alongside a friend is very appealing.
These multiplayer mods to single player games are really fun. I have had many friends pickup these old gems because it has this kind of feature now. The Mario 64 mod was a fantastic one that really set the bar for this kind of thing.
So lets wait and see how things turn out. Hopefully no leaks wink, wink.
