In the LEC (League of Legends European Championship) scene, sources say that there has been an accusation from MAD Lions accusing G2 of roster tampering. However, these allegations have happened behind closed doors. While there is no hard evidence yet, these accusations can have serious repercussions.
In an interview with Dot Esports, a Riot spokesperson said “There has been no complaint filed with the LEC, and there is no ongoing investigation against any LEC team on this topic. With regards to the team owners’ meeting: those happen regularly and the topics that are discussed are confidential”.
According to the LEC official rulebook, “discovery of any Team Manager/Member committing any violations of the rules, the League may issue the following penalties:
- Verbal Warning
- Loss of Side Selection for current or future Game(s)
- Loss of Ban(s) for Current or Future Game(s)
- Fine(s) and/or Prize Forfeiture(s)
- Game and/or Match Forfeiture(s)
- Suspension(s)
- Disqualification(s)”
Esports Global Penalty Index
Even with these serious punishments, the Esports Global Penality Index also says that a player tampering with or poaching another player can face penalties up to a 10 competitive month suspension. This is assuming that the team is able to gather enough “intensive” evidence that “is understood to be a credible, directed, and earnest attempt to make an offer of employment to a coach or player who is under a league-recognized contract.”
While the allegations are still uncertain, it could lead to the loss of some of G2 Esports’ top players, if they are found guilty of any of the roster tampering charges. This would have a major impact on how the team will move into the upcoming season.
However, there seems to be no bad blood between the two teams. Dot Esports has said that “MAD Lions has granted a tryout for G2 with its SuperLiga team”. While it is possible for things to not escalate further, it is an issue for LEC fans to follow. Since this is a currently developing story with no confirmation from Riot Games, treat this one with a grain of salt. We will update you more on it once it develops
