LoL patch 14.5 seeks to tone down the major benefactors of AP items, as well as address some of the beefy tank itemization.
Compared to some of the big patches early in the year, 14.5 is a bit simpler. It doesn’t have some of the bigger system changes, and instead is simpler buffs/nerfs to champs and items.
Lol patch 14.5 champ changes

The champs getting nerfs are: Bel’Veth, Brand, Evelynn, Maokai, Nidalee, Senna, Twisted Fate, Vayne, Yorick, and Zac.
- Bel’Veth’s E damage reduction is lower.
- Brand’s R has less damage and longer cooldowns, but his passive does more damage to monsters.
- Evelynn’s Q does less damage.
- Maokai has lower base move speed, and his W has a longer cooldown. His Q does more damage to monsters to help him in jungle.
- Nidalee’s base move speed is slower, and her Cougar-Q does less damage to marked targets.
- Senna’s Q damage is lower.
- Twisted Fate gets less attack speed and damage on his E to nerf his AD builds.
- Vayne has lower move speed bonus from his passive, and her Q has a higher cooldown in early levels.
- Yorick’s E bonus damage is lower. His Maiden has higher armor and MR, but now takes full damage from AoE.
- Zac’s W damage is lower.
The buffed champs in patch 14.5 are: Jarvan IV, Kayn, Kog’Maw, Rek’Sai, Sivir, Veigar, Vex, and Wukong.
- Jarvan has higher base armor growth and shorter Q cooldown.
- Kayn’s red form receives increased healing, with his passive now additionally scaling with HP and his ult healing 10% more of damage dealt for 75%.
- Kog’Maw has higher base movement speed and a faster Q. His E now slows more and his ult does more damage.
- Rek’Sai has some changes to try fix her many bugs introduced in LoL patch 14.4. Her E monster damage and R damage is higher.
- Sivir’s base armor is higher.
- Veigar has higher Q damage and lower R cooldown.
- Vex has higher passive damage, and her E now refunds her passive on kill.
- Wukong’s passive lowers its cap from 10 to 5, and adjusts the stats from each stack accordingly. Stacks also fall off one at a time instead of all at once.
Meanwhile, Seraphine and Smolder are the two LoL champs that got adjustments.
- All of Seraphine’s abilities receive various tweaks to try accommodate both her roles as APC and Support.
- Smolder has lower damage on his Q and E, in exchange for a slightly better ultimate in terms of healing and sweet spot damage.

Item changes
Patch 14.5 also targets LoL items.
- Celestial Opposition has a lower cooldown and a better slow.
- Dream Maker now changes its bubbles damage bonuses/reduction to scale with level, making it weaker early and stronger later.
- Frozen Heart gets another nerf, giving less armor and costing more gold.
- Heartsteel tweaks its proc bonus damage to have lower base but higher HP scaling.
- Solstice Sleigh has a longer cooldown and gives less move speed. Its bonus HP also changes from a flat % of total HP. Instead, it gives 50-230 based on levels 6-18.
- Spear of Shojin changes its stacks to interact better with intended users.
- Sunfire Aegis gives more HP and has higher damage on its Immolate passive.
A particular focus of patch 14.5 is AP Assassin items, which have proven difficult this year since the major LoL seasonal update.
- Lich Bane has less AP scaling.
- Stormsurge gives more movement speed.
- Hextech Rocketbelt is more expensive but grants more AP.
And that’s that!
